Oh give me a break!! I am all for Alito being confirmed. He is exactly what the SC needs. But his wife crying does nothing for me or for the rest of America. It was almost as pathetic as Clinton wiping "fake tears" at Vince Foster's funeral. Mrs. Alito can kiss my "Alito."

Yes, because the President will routinely kill nearly a million innocent Americans every year.

So....they dug through ALL the C.A.P. documents untill 2 this morning and found no references, role calls, checks, magazine subscriptions, or documents with "Scalito's" name.

Glad we can move on with the packing!

I assume you meant 'Alito' when you said Scalito.

So do you think that Alito was lying when he claimed to have belonged to the group?

Yes I meant Alito, his nickname is "Scalito" being that he has ridden Scalia's jock for so long.

I don't know if he was lying or not--I think it's a non sequitur at this point...non? I say, push his wormy azz through, upset the balance of the court, and WAKE this country UP to blatant abuse of power in government.

By appointing a Supreme who is guaranteed to turn his head the other way on oversteps by the executive branch?

It is time the Democrats showed a little sack and filibuster Bork-alito's right wingnut ass.

I have the same feeling, it makes me sick. But what are we to do? We'll be blamed as obstructionists and I don't think the public will be enlivened until there is a national issue that sparks an uprising...like repealing Roe or some sort of privacy issue that DIRECTLY effects them.

    I guess I am a pessimist

To me, that's an interesting (seemingly) statistical anomaly. Polls generally show 60-70% of respondents do not want to see Roe v Wade overturned, yet polls show a split close enough to be statistically even on whether or not folks consider themselves "pro-choice or pro-life on the subject of abortion".

I am not sure what kind of politcal backlash would be generated if it were overturned.

Bush is not popular. The reasons for his lack of popularity (Iraq War, PlameGate, Abramoff Scandal, NSA spy free-for-all, etc) aint going away anytime soon. This candidate, Bork-ito, is not mainstream, is talking code implying he will take Roe down, and lying his sweet ass off. By punking his nominee, the Senate Democrats are a in win-win situation. They score political points with their party activists, the country does not get stuck with a Supreme turd, and the Republicans have fodder for fundraising.

In many peoples mind the definitions are somewhat fluid. I think there are people who consider themselves pro-choice but are for restrictions and there are people who consider themselve pro-life but would allow abortion under certain conditions. My own feeling regarding abortion is that the overall sentiment is to mend it but don't end it.

Today, Judge Alito testified that a condemned man whose conviction is overturned does not have the constitutional right to not be executed.

If that isn't an extremist point of view, nothing is.

Say what?? You've got to be kidding! So he's cool with an innocent man being executed? Who gives a **** if his wife can't behave in a public setting. We aren't deciding whether she is going to be a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.

I haven't been watching today, either.

KPFT is carrying the hearings live, and I was listening to it while in my car during lunch. I almost drove off the road. Alito is pure 100% Federalist Society. He is towing his ideological line, passing the reactionary litmus test that Harriet Myers failed.

    Link please.

It surprises me that other liberals are jumping right on this with no link or evidence to support it. Actually, it doesn't surprise me.
