I've been waiting for this movie to come out since I saw the trailer. I love epic films such as this especially about the ancient Greeks/Romans. The only thing I don't like it the fact that they cast these "pretty boys" to play these parts. I liked "Troy" alot but could do without Brad Pitt flashing his ass every 10 secs. I wish they would select actors who fit the parts rather than trying to draw interest through sex appeal. Anyways, I am taking a history class this semester and we learned alot on ALexander and his conquests so I'll see how accurate they are (hopefully not descriptive on Alexander and his male lover). I am probably going to check it out 2night. Just wondering if anyonelse was looking forward to it. Happy Turkey day!!! Peace out.

read the reviews -- most of them said the movie sucks. i'm pretty sure most of it will be historically inaccurate/exaggerated, but who cares -- rosario dawson takes her top off.. :)

can't believe my wife didn't make me go see Troy, simply to catch brad pitt.

if she can find a sitter, i'm sure she'll go see colin farrell in this one, and drag me along. i love reading of alexander the great, and i understand this is not very historically accurate. we'll see.

hey...i'm irish just like colin. that counts, right? :) nothing like a chain-smoking, whiskey-swigging irishman to play the great Greek conqueror!

    hilarious review:

"Oliver Stone doesn't just create trainwrecks. He knocks the train off the rails, sets it on fire, then kills every person onboard. (And takes three hours to do it.)"-- Eric D. Snider

I'm not sold on Collin as a believable Alexander. I think Angelina will be good, but I can't help but thinking of her as a totally modern tattooed actress. I'm not sure I will be able to buy her in a period piece.

I would rather have a good movie with unkowns. I heard that the Last Samurai was a good movie, but I couldn't watch it because when I saw the previews I just laughed when I saw Tom Cruise as the white savior of Samurai tradition. His celebrity was bigger than his acting ability, and it killed the immersion.

I will NOT see this movie just because of Angelina's HORRIBLE "accent" in the trailer when she says 'Alexander'. WTF? What kind of accent are you trying to do?

I saw the movie today, and I honestly did not think it was all that bad. I agree that Angelina Jolie's accent was weird (I honestly do not know what she was trying to do. Greek? Macedonian?). My main complaint with the movie was that it was so damn long. By the 150 minute mark, I was waiting for Alexander to die so I could leave.

    Wow... this movie blew.
    1. I had no idea Alexander was so gay (literally)
    2. If anything at least it was hillarious, albeit unintenionally.
    3. The damn guy at the end wouldn't stop talking.. really, he was rambling on and on..

Audience booed like crazy.. I actually considered walking out on this one.

I saw the movie last night and liked it. I think the so called "expert critics" need to learn history before they can appreciate this movie. I am no Alexander expert but from what I have read in history books and from my history professor's lectures, the movie was very historically accurate. Yeah the movie was very long (almost 3 hrs!) but I enjoyed the stories I heard in class come to life on the BIG screen. I think the movie would have had a more powerful effect if they spoke the original languages of the people but that would be impossible to achieve b/c this took place in the 300's B.C. and those languages have changed so much over time. If you're interested/fascinated in history you'll really enjoy this movie, if you have a short attention span and enjoy special effects non-sense with no plot then this isn't for you. In comparisson to "Gladiator" & "Troy", it probably ranks almost even with "Troy" however I think "Gladiator" was the most entertaining of the 3 even though it wasn't a "true" story. Anyways, that's what I thought about it. Peace.

I'm not too excited about the movie but I wouldn't listen to internet critics. They're more concerned with being blowhard than they are with actually reviewing the movie.

i watched this one on wednesday when it came out

im a huge fan of movies such as gladiator, troy, the last samurai, braveheart, etc....

i could honestly say i was excited about this movie but left as dissapointed as i could be.

the fact that alexander was gay is one thing but to keep referencing to it was another, by the 6th inuendo i was pretty disgusted.

movies time length could have been cut in half and i could honestly say that i couldnt wait for it to be over!

the movie should have been based upon alexander and his leadership and control of most of the known world but it takes a huge detour and lightens the unnecessary events of alexanders life.

    WHAT A BORE

All those Ancient Greeks were gay.

I had heard that this movie might have some man on man action but I imagine that would be hard to pull off in an R rated movie.

Of course any discomfort about that could be balanced with copious amounts of Rosario Dawson.

    :D

I agreed with you, so didn't see it in the theatre. But I rented it, and it was really good - to the point where you actually get past the celebrity - sometimes those guys can actually be good actors (Cruise in this, Pitt in 12 Monkeys, etc.) and sometimes they blow (Cruise in Mission Impossible, Pitt in Troy), etc. See The Last Samurai, it was good.
