I used to never attract girls my age. They'd either be 4 years and more younger, or like 10+ years older...I moved to the west coast and the trend followed me over here. So I haven't had much option BUT to go with the age differences unless I wanted to work harder for girls in my peer group (which my lazy self didnt )

I think how everything is so pop-cultured and fast-moving in recent decades makes age factor in a little more than it should. An example would be what rimrocker said about describing Patti Labelle to a younger person (nothing wrong with that). Someone who grew up during the post-disco glam metal era might be all "80'sed out" to a college person now....And maybe not relationship material based off that whether the reasons are valid or not.

Back in the 1870's who the heck was thinking stuff like that? I don't believe anyone had a thinking approach back then "yeah jane doe over there, all [18]50'sed lookin, lame..." So part of it is mindset & if they have enough common interest without any "gaps" between them...If a 29 year old man's looking to settle its possible he can pair up with a 19 year old immigrant Cuban girl as much as a 29 year old Louis Vuitton toting American.

I've never gone more than 2 years older than me, and my last girlfriend was *12* years younger (cue the nervous breakdown music). The age difference wasn't a big deal -- it was her lack of maturity. I was 31, she was 19. It blew up in an amazing fiery ball of chaos. No one could have expected that arrangement to work, but Lord was she hot...and I flushed all common sense down the toilet.

Here, I think people are much more mature than Americans. I'm generalizing of course, but 3 years of mandatory army service and what not tends to make for a different society.

I'm 33 here and most people think I'm in my early twenties. Consequently, that tends to be what I attract. I think the threshold is somewhere between 22-25 when girl becomes less of a catalyst to turning your own hair gray. I'm sure 22-25 would suit me just fine 5 or 10 years from now. Anything beyond that is tacky in a viagra and hair plugs kind of way.

this is what I get for forgetting to check the board for a few weeks. Someone posts on my favorite subject, younger men.

I think younger men are great. I'm 32 and my boyfriend is 25. I don't think much of it. I usually think "hey, only a 7 year age difference, I actually did the right thing and behaved myself, because I know guys who are even younger than that" :) . Because I don't feel like I've settled into adulthood as much as some 32-year-olds, it feels more compatible, like I can relax and be appreciated for myself. Of course, before I found this out, I had a disastrous 11-year relationship with someone who was 13 years older than me... we were only 19 and 32 when it started... I thought it was OK at the time. I still don't think it's necessarily the age difference that was bad about that one, but I might have seemed young to him and annoyed him which would have helped things spiral downward. No more older men for me, anyway.

It is awesome that this thread contains more examples of younger men with older women than the other way around. Maybe the conventional wisdom is wrong, and it really does work better that way. Also nice that younger men really do find older women attractive. It does seem like I've had more attracted to me since I turned 30, even though I didn't exactly think I was looking better every year.

But I really think it's the person, not the age, assuming you're both adults. I don't want to use my age for power in the relationship, and it's definitely about a true relationship (not just some physical stuff). The only difference is I've been around a few more years, but even then we're still in the same cultural peer group. Age differences of more than 10 years in either direction are harder to make work, and can be weird, but in a lot of cases they turn out to be OK.

Anyway, better go in the other room and check on my younger man. :D (which is one of the reasons I haven't had as much time for the bbs...)

I don't think it's weird that a women sees a younger man. I could definitely date an older woman. 30s is the new 20s, that's whats up! Maybe it's because we don't expect to be able to pull older women because they're suppose to be all successful/professional and stuff.

It's almost intimidating because we're still trying to figure out what we want to do with our lives while most older women already have successful careers, maybe even some kids, ect. But honestly, I'd marry a sugar money in a second! No, don't say I'm only marrying for the money. Because if she can make sure I won't have to worry about money, then I'll love her for that. :D

I'm only 19 so a "younger guy" is middle school! lol But I still don't see why a 25 year old would want to date an 18 year old. Most of them so immature and have so many issues to work out before they can have a real, level-headed, mature relationship. I guess if his maturity level is on par with yours, and he has his "stuff" together, then it could work. Obviously, that's just IMO. I've just always been attracted to older men.
