Those channels are actually owned by Discovery Communications Inc. They do air some shows that were originally produced by the BBC, and DCI also distributes BBC America in the United States. But I think it's a partnership as opposed to any form of ownership. That said, the BBC-produced shows on TLC, the Discovery channel, etc... are usually fantastic.
