Well, after almost a year of complete dissatisfaction with my E-machines PC, I have decided to bite the bullet, write it off as a poor decision, and buy a new PC. Here is a deal that I found today at Dell Business section:-

    Dell Dimension L
    Pentium III 866
    128 Meg Ram
20 Gig Ulta ATA Hard Drive
Keyboard, mouse, NO monitor, 1.44 floppy
    ,speakers
    Intel 3D AGP Graphics card
48X Max Variable CD Rom drive
    Soundblaster 64V PCI
1 year ONSITE NEXT BUSINESS DAY parts & labour warranty + 1 year phone support

I know it is a bit of a barebones system, but I already have CD burner, monitor, network card, Firewire card, and believe me, the ONSITE warranty means a lot after the crap I have put up with from E machines.

    Price is only $689.

Anyone have any advice? SHould I upgrade the hard drive to 7200 rpm(+$30) considering I will be doing video editing with it? Will the IBM AGP graphics card be sufficient for video editing and gaming?

    Thanks.

Since you'll be doing some video editing, I would suggest upgrading to the 7200RPM hard drive. For only $30, it'll make your life a good bit easier. You could get by with the regular UltraATA drive, but since it's only $30, you might as well make the upgrade.

    Davo,

That computer you are looking to buy only has one 5.25 bay, which means you'd have to take out the CD Rom and put in your CDRW. That video card is integrated, so if you play games, 8mb is ok, but you can't upgrade it. I'd go with the Dimension 4100 or 8100, it's more money, but it will do what you want it to do, and it's more upgradable.

The thing I love most about this BBS is the fact that you never know when a simpsons' quote may surface. [IMG]
I would definitely recommend the hard drive update.

Actually i think you can. If you get a PCI video card, you can daisychain it through the VGA output from the integrated video card.
That's in most cases, not all.

Yes you do know when a Simpsons reference will surface. It happens in nearly every single thread. [IMG] (And I love it, too).

correct me of I'm wrong...but don't most machines have the capability to disable the on-board video when you install a new card???

the question is...does the mobo have a AGP slot?
definitely go with the 7200 rpm drive..

There is NOTHING WRONG with Macs..they are indeed great audio/video editing machines.
