    Whats up everyone-

I'm currently taking an Advertising and Society class at UT and have to do a research paper. The topic that I chose is whether or not MLB should put advertising (like a patch or sticker) on either batting helmets or uniforms.

Here is an example from when the Yankees played the Devil Rays to open up the season last year in Japan:

I was just wondering what you guys thought about that and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

its bad enough having to look at the nike logo on the back of everything, I don't think I could stand watching the astros play with Hilton furniture logos all over them

I would love to see some Mattress Mac ads on jerseys.

I think ads on jerseys are the way to go.

It would help subsidize new stadium building projects, and in turn would theoretically help bring ticket prices down.

Also it would help level the playing field in terms of marketing dollars that big revenue television markets bring in. Now a team in a smaller city, can still generate advertising revenue from a big local sponsor.

I think it would be annoying as crap, but it's one of those things that I can't see not happening.

Be sure and cite your sources properly in your paper.

As embarassing as it may be.

I think it would make it worse. I think you'd end up with the smaller market teams making far less off of their ads on the jerseys. They may get deals with local sponsors or even big sponsors, but I'd have to think the big time companies would shell out more money for teams that are on tv on a constant basis.

If I were a national company I'd be far more likely to shell out cash for the Yankees since they are on espn etc so much.. than the Royals.

As a baseball purist,I'm totally against it.Look at what money has already done to the game....ads on uniforms...perhaps inevitable, but disgusting nevertheless.

It's only a matter of time, European clubs have been doing this for a long time. AIG just paid $100 million to have their logos on the front of Manchester United jerseys for the next four years.

Yah, my stand on the paper is that ads on uniforms would take away from the purity of the game. There's already so many sponsorship deals... the game has become far too commercialized. Plus, I don't think the ads would be aesthetically pleasing. Remember when the MLB had that deal with Columbia Pictures and Marvel to put the Spiderman 2 logos on the bases and on deck circles. There was a huge amount of criticism and they backed off the deal.

I could care less --- I wouldn't care if the uniforms were even designed around the ads (a la Nascar). I don't think it hurts NASCAR any and those ads couldn't be anymore obvious.

Baseball is entertainment -- advertising helps pay for entertainment.

Baseball purist? These are grown men playing a game not composing symphonies, creating great works of art or saving lives.

I wouldn't mind. As long as they don't change the team's name like the MetroStars of the MLS did by changing their name to Red Bull New York.

When Bowie Kuhn was commisioner they should have put a salary cap or revenue sharing in.From Marvin Miller and free agency to Donald Fehr and the players Union, our game has been under siege for quite awhile......and now ads on uniforms..C'mon...enough is enough. All in pusuit of the almight dollar and at what cost...killing the golden goose?

BTW...tack on high prices at the park and roided up players...Man! ...the owners sure as hell aren't going to open the books so who knows how much money they are making?Just look at the value of the Astros since Drayton bought the team.I know it's a business, but at what point is enough enough.Let's preserve the integrity of the game..eh?

..and it's a sad day(sign of the times) when someone begrudges another for being a baseball purist.I don't think you really understand what the game is about.Yeah,I love the game..I played it and have been a fan out of the crib(literally)40 years.
...Go watch Field of Dreams..I know it sounds corny, but BASEBALL IS part the fabric of Americana. They actually played in between battles during the Civil War.

..sorry for the numerous posts.I have no edit feature. I do have one last thing to say tonight though on this subject.
I said perhaps you don't understand what the game's about..Check that..This goes to a bigger issue....about what has become acceptable in our society.Yes,doctors and artists are very important, but at the same time you seem so willing to devalue one of the things that has been at the core of our history as a nation...all for money.
