    Great thread!

I personally think Adelman's system has less "risk" as it relates to injuries and personnel. If you have multidimensional players, you're less at risk of watching the whole team meltdown in the event of a key player injury. I remember Sac of old when Webber would be out or Peja, and yet they still found ways to win. I think this is ESPECIALLY true of the point guard position where they had Bobby Jackson AND Mike Bibby. Both guards were very talented but they did more than just bring the ball up and pass. They were scorers too who had license to shoot the three play and were fantastic penetrators at that. On that note, I feel that of the ALL our players, rather our holdovers from the JVG years, the man who has shown the most MultiDimention is RAFER!

Rafer is exemplary of this new approach and I think it will pay dividends this year and next.

    The TRUTH!

    In JVG's team:

    Tmac (multidimensional)
Yao (low post dominant, single dimension = BEST CENTER IN THE NBA)
    Hayes (pure defender, good fit)
Boki (multidimensional at sucking, not fit on any team)
Bonzi (multidimensional gut, couldn't fit on the plane, fat ass)
Vspan (multiple times crying to the press, so good he got deported to greece)
SF (multiteam reject, booted from Magic, Knicks, Blazers)
Head (pure spot up 3p shooter, good fit)
Alston (pure pg, spot up 3p shooter, good guard defender, that isn't multidimensional??? good fit!)
Howard (spot up shooter, lockerroom leader, good fit)
Deke (Best back up center in the NBA)
James (Intense off the bench, Shoot First PG, solid scorer, decent defender(MULTIDIMENSIONAL?), locker room plague, crappy fit on any team)

    In Adelman's team:

    Tmac (multidimensional)
Yao (multidimensional wanna be Divac/Miller 18 foot jumper non dominant center, below 50% shooting)
    Hayes (pure defender, not fit)
Bonzi (multidimensional? are you talking about his body?)
Head (multiple times turning ball over/shooter)
    Alston (real pg, multidimensional)
AB (good scorer, fast, cant defend anyone above 6 foot, good fit!)
Scola (mid range jump shooter/charge king)
SF (multidimensional, cry baby on the bench after tour of the United States, bad fit on any team)
Deke (Piece of turd rotting on the bench, only used on "slow" paced teams, bad fit)
James (Another turd rotting on the bench, brick machine, even worse fit than JVG's team).

Let JVG coach the team's defense, and Adelman coach the offense.
    :)

LOL ... where was this talk in November during the losing streak? I think after a 6 game losing streak, JVG would have tweaked the rotation as well.

In terms of willingness to change the rotation over a stretch of poor play, I think both coaches are equally stubborn.

Sometimes dude, it's best to fess up that you came up with a crappy analysis and might not know what you are talking about - give yourself at least some recovery of credibility.

    Trust me on this one.

    Horrible analysis.

You say Head is a spot up shooter and good fit for JVG. Then you call him a multidimensional shooter and seemingly a good fit for Adelman.

You say Alston is a pure PG and spot up 3 point shooter and good fit for JVG, then you call him multidimensional for Adelman.

You say SF is multidimensional and a good fit for Adelman yet he has been horrible and cant even get on the floor.

Are you saying JVG is the reason the Rox dont have the powerhouse that is Boki Nachbar and Vspan. Who cares. Nachbar is a mediocre NBA player and Vspan a terrible one.

Also, having Yao play in the high post doesnt make him multidimensional. Its not like he is suddenly scoring in different ways. His outside jumper has not been that good this year and aside from his drive and dunk on Rose the other night, he isnt scoring by beating guys off the dribble. Yao is still scoring mainly from deep in the paint, much like he did with JVG.

Im not saying one coach is better then the other. I just think posts like this are pointless because five games ago we were 15-17 and I dont think many people felt Adelman was better for this team then JVG. Now five wins later, he is a genious. Lose to the Hornets tomorrow and he will be an idiot again.

Bottom line is you can not campare JVG to Adelman. No matter what happens, this years team has far better players then JVG had to work with. JVG did a great job. If Adelman wins 50 games and especially if we do something in the playoffs he will have done a great job.

In JVG's system, all of the offense depends on T-MAC&YAO,especially on T-MAC.But T-MAC was(is) not a tough player, that made the team lose twice in the 7th.If there was Kobe, not T-MAC.I think JVG's system would work well.(You should say it works much much better in every system having KOBE instead of T-MAC,but we just talk about the system, right?)
In RA's system, everybody takes the load of offense, that is the correct direction for this Rockets. So we can't simply say RA's system is better than JVG's.Actually it is just more suitable for the team.

Yao has taken 70 shots outside 15 feet all year. He has hit 24 of them. This includes all shots from about 15 feet out to just inside the 3 line. I think the Vlade stuff stems from Rick wanting Yao to get some easy shots at the FT line area(which Yao shoots about 50% for the year). Folks have ran with the thinking that Yao is shooting all 18 foot Js. Yao shoots inside 15 feet a vast majority of the time(more than 80% easily).

Kobe wouldnt have helped in game 7 in Dallas. Well, maybe if he had one of his multitude of 81 point games.

the only analysis that matters is jvg tooks the rox to the playoffs last year. it's remain to be seen if adelman will do the same.

And you are 4 months too early to pass any judgement on JVG and Adelman. In the first place, what qualifies you to pass judgement? In the first place, how would you know that JVG wouldn't have played Scola, Brooks and Landry, and Adelman would have played V-Span?

To be able to make such a sweeping remark, you must have had the complete big picture history of the Rockets and sufficient knowledge of the little details in there. I doubt you have grasped the full situation of both coaches, the year to year (month to month? day to day?) conditions of each coach led team and can understand the reasoning and strategy behind each decision.

That is why the more rational posters here STRONGLY DISAGREE (to put it EXTREMELY POLITELY) with your assessment.

All I'll say is that it is more fun watching the Rockets this year.

While I dont agree with the OPs assessment of all the players in each coach's system, I think its obvious that Adelman's system is more able to function without a cog. Even a very important cog such as Yao or T-Mac.

That's funny, I remember most of VSpan's passes not reaching the intended targets. A quick check of his NBA stats shows that he had more turnovers than assists -- that's hardly the mark of a skilled passer.

Unless your teammates are not expecting the pass and turn into butterfingers.

He certainly had some turnovers, but as a PnR PG, he would have had more opportunities...under JVG he played the 2 guard.....not his best spot in the NBA.

I still think he would have been an outstanding player under Adelman.....but am very happy we got Scola and Brooks....

V-Span is gone, same as JVG.......they had issues with each other and it hurt the team last year...

    Time to move on.

I am very happy we have a coach who gives younger players a chance, it will help in the future as well as the present.

This thread is an example of someone having an idea, looking for data/info/opinions to support it, seeing that they really have nothing to back their idea but submitting it anyway simply out of the inability or unwillingness to admit they are wrong.

It reminds me of people who are still claiming Bush is an awesome President but running like hell when someone asks them why and "because he ain't skeered of turrorists" doesn't do that job convincing people.

No, the Rockets in the past 9 games or so have been more fun to watch. The Rockets in games 8-29 or so were the most painful team to try to watch. I will wait to see how they do against the best teams again before I pass judgment.
