I seriously don't think R.Adelman gets enough credit. Sacramento Kings Postseason Schedule - 2005-06 FINAL RECORD: (44-38) 3 Shareef Abdur-Rahim F 6-9 93 Ron Artest F 6-6 244 10 Mike Bibby G 6-1 190 32 Francisco Garcia F-G 6-7 5 Jason Hart G 6-3 185 23 Kevin Martin G 6-7 185 52 Brad Miller C 6-11 244 15 Sergei Monia F 6-8 220 20 Vitaly Potapenko C 6-10 7 Ronnie Price G 6-2 190 31 Jamal Sampson F-C 6-11 235 54 Brian Skinner F 6-9 255 16 Peja Stojakovic F-G 6-9 9 Kenny Thomas F 6-7 261 42 Bonzi Wells G-F 6-5 210 34 Corliss Williamson F 6-7 that overacheiving team there. Gave San An all they could handle. I know alot of folx beleive JVG 'did more with less' I disagree I think R.A. Has not had more. . . HE MADE MORE! I think it is HIS COACHING that makes Landry, Lowry, Scola, Brooks, Budinger Better. . . . It is not about the TALENT you receive sometimes. . . it is about the TALENT YOU CULTIVATE!!! COACH!! TEACH!!! This is where R.A. is superior to JVG for me. I think R.A. does alot more COACHING and TEACHING than most other coaches. Alot of coaches seem to have the attitude "you're in the NBA you should KNOW how to do this, that or the other and if i have to teach you . .then you are not a TRUE PROFESSIONAL whois is improving and learning his Craft in his own time blah blah blah" R.A. Seems to be more of a person that says HEY! You should know how to do it. . but let's not dwell on that Here's how you do it . . .. I think the players are responding to that. IMO JVG's players were scared of making mistakes esp rookies. . .they *sses would be yanked in a minute R.A. Seems to let them play through it . . . correct it in the practice . . .I think that instills confidence in our players. . . [not saying he won't yank someone but his hook seems to not be as fast] i like our player's confidence. JVG's teams knew exactly what to do on Defense R.A.s teams may not be as efficient on Defense but they are good on offense. . it is no comparison . .this teams knows EXACTLY what it is doing sometimes it works. . sometimes not . .but there is a plan that includes something besides hand the ball to tracyor hand the ball to Yao JVG - is a good coach for VETs who are not easily shaken and scared R.A. is the better all around coach Rocket River just giving Coach R.A. some props ..
Good post, I'm just as impressed with RA's defense as I am with his offense, specially his perimeter defense. Definitely top 3 coaches in the league, I just hope we can give him a healthy roster one year so we can see his coaching adjustments as we go deep in the playoffs.
I think both are great coaches that know how to get the most out of what they have. But I will say the Rocket teams that JVG coached were less talented (player wise) than Ricks Rockets teams.
I think they are both great, but I would not trade Adelman for JVG at this point. Adelman has really surpassed my expectations by a large margin.
I prefer R.A. as a coach.. but I do miss JVG's animation. I loved watching him back up our players the way he did... especially Yao.
JVG only had himself to blame. Give both of them 3M to spend. JVG would sign two Charlie Wards, while Rick would rather buy 3-4 second rounders and turn some of them into landry and c bud. JVG rotated the vets 32+ years old for 4 years and left a team with nothing but two overused superstars.
This thread gets two thumbs up! RA is a great coach and maybe the best the Rockets coach ever, all due respect to Rudy T (my favorite coach of all time). RA seems to have as much knowledge with X's and O's as either Bill Fitch or JVG but has the ability to let the players play with out micro managing. I always thought that both Fitch and JVG were micro managers to a fault.
Sheesh man what is this mess? I've been here for more than 7 years and I still overlook every single one of your posts because of your formatting. Honestly, if you typed properly I'm sure people would actually take you seriously.
Bingo! but wasnt that CD's choice of getting "proven veterans" aka barkley, pippen, marc jackson,............. I wonder why they didnt keep sam and robert horry.
The Rockets were going for a title there and then......If Chuck hadn't have gotten injured we'd have another banner up there.
The biggest difference between Adelman and JVG is that Adelman does not see offense as a necessary evil. The second biggest difference is that Adelman can coach all kinds of players while JVG can only coach "his kind" of players.
Yeah, Adelman is one of the best. His handling of the Jailblazers was incredible. They WERE talented, but totally whacked out. In SAC he brought that team to the cusp...matched up perfect with LA. The guy's been ripped off twice AND had Yao go down when we were about to take down the the Lakers and win it all ..............3 times the Ruler could have easily added title/titles to his resume....which BTW speaks for itself.
Not even close. JVG did not develop players. Period. RA has developed Budinger, Lowry, Brooks, Scola, and Landry. Not to mention Greene (trade for Artest). Frankly, even Rafer was a better trade asset under RA than JVG. I wonder how V Span would have faired with RA. The difference is that no one expected JVG's teams to achieve without TMac and Yao, and they didn't. No one expects the RA teams to achieve without them, and they do. Every single night.
^Took the words right out of my mouth. Do you think Andersen would even sniff the court under JVG's regime?
Yep, he is really great coach. Makes bench warmers look like role players, makes role players look like starters, ect. But when it's all said and done, we're going to need talent to win a championship.
