why does adelman keep yao in the game, up 20, and 5 min left? is it me, or could adelman spread the wealth of time and keep some of the starters more rested?
The more I watch Adelman coach the more I see him as a great systems coach who has a tendency to become a mental midget during court time. He's pretty good at creating and implementing a certain system, and at creating theories and strategies on how they should play. However during court-time expect him to make boneheaded and totally wtf moves now and then. He has his moments of lucidity, but at this point nothing he does on-court surprises me anymore. I can't count the number of times I wanted to throw something at my pc whenever he does his "stop-and-stare-and-shake-his-head" routine lols You just have to take the good with the bad. All things considered, he's still one of the better coaches in the league, and we're still lucky to be stuck with him instead of someone like Larry Brown, Mike Dunleavy or even Kevin Mchale lols
padding stats, boosting confidence?? I think everybody agrees Yao needs that confidence or assertiveness or whatever.. He had talked about his rebounding numbers before, while he doesnt care much about stats, he still wouldn't like to see 4, 6, 7 numbers often. Plus a low pressure game is more like practice. Doesn't JVG and ppl always say Yao needs repetition and rhythm? Hence the better back-to-back performance? I guess tonight was still okay, but again there is always unnecessary risk of injuries...
He just needed to make sure we are going to win this game. I mean look at the last few games, the 4th quarter hasn't been impressive. We haven't been able to finish off games, and Adelman doesn't want to have to keep bringing Yao in and out. Just finish off the game and then let him rest. Eventually Yao will play some minutes over his average, that's inevitable.
It's all in good humor & fun. Yi was on the court too, millions of people are watching them. A couple of low intensity minutes probably doesn't matter that much anyway.
Remember he's also cut down on his practice time to relieve stress on his lower body. So perhaps Yao needs the time to keep himself in sync. Just so everyone knows, Yao is averaging 3 minutes less per game than he was last year plus the decrease in practice time. And we haven't exactly been blowing people away on a nightly basis putting Yao on the bench earlier.
It is because Yao has been at his best on the 2nd night of a back to back this year. Just getting ready for tomorrow .
Well i know we've lost large leads this season. He's just making sure the game is won. You guys will find anything to complain about huh?
We had a 18 point lead in the 4th period the other night against the Timberwolves, and they cut it to 3 points! The lead can disappear in a hurry - that said, we are needed Yao and everyone else tomorrow againt the Cav's
Great thread. For me, Rick sometimes just makes dumb decisions. He kept Yao becasuse what, because he had to score his 20? Or what? I don't see other reason. You have to be careful especially with Yao, and especially if you play Cleveland 24 hours later. It was stupid decision for me.
rick's keeping yao on the floor to build up team chemistry with the different players. rick is the type of coach that looks into the future when he coaches game, sometimes that becomes a problem and sometimes that doesn't. he is truly a player's coach. he puts a lot of responsibility in the players' hands to react to certain situations, reasons why he uses his timeouts sparingly much like phil jackson and his ways of using the princeton offense.
This. Make sure the game doesn't get more interesting than necessary. Secondly, the rhythm factor for Yao.
Maybe Rick is making a point? He's already spoken about his dissatisfaction with our backup C option. He's already suggested that we need something a little bigger out there. It's common knowledge that Les doesn't want to pay the luxury tax, which is why we're waiting until January to sign Deke. Perhaps Adelman doesn't care about Les' back pocket? And he is saying 'get me a big backup NOW'. And Mr Adelman is making a statement that, if he doesn't get one, Yao is going to have to bear the load. A Yao injury puts a serious dent in our title aspirations - which leads to less income for Les. And so on... OR (more likely) perhaps Adelman just wanted to protect the lead and figured that 35 minutes for a starting player in the NBA wasn't an extreme workload. Even with a back to back looming (especially when said player performs better on back to back games...). Call Adelman a bonehead all you like, but his Sacto teams were awesome, and the last 2 years of Rockets teams are heading that same way!
DrNuegebauer, what are you talking about. It was a 25 blowout, I would be fine if Brooks played at center. When you lead by as many points and there are only few minutes till the end of the game, it really doesn't matter. Why really cares? We were not gonna lose this lead.
