Better chance? It would've have mattered if deke or chuck were in unless they were in landry's spot. Landry had the perfect position, but he let himself get pushed under the basket. Chuck would've been unable to get that rebound over okur. Deke might've been able to get it, but then he might've been fouled. He's not a good free throw shooter. Btw, a jazz player would have plenty of time to foul deke before he had the chance to call a timeout.
Actually, its part of the action. It would be a loose ball foul. Hayes would have to shoot free throws in this instance.
By "not a good free throw shooter", I mean I wouldn't feel comfortable with him on the line in that critical situation. He hadnt played in a while (so he was probably cold) and had shot a total of 2 free throws the entire series. And he shot 71.1% this season. If you can show me someone who thinks this is a good free throw percentage, I'll show you someone with low standards.
Nope. Rockets wouldnt get the ball back. The "away from the ball" foul rule that your alluding to would only be in effect if the player fouled is away from the action. If we were to bring in Deke/Chuck for rebounding purposes, reason stands that they would be in the action. Thus they could be intentionally fouled and would have to shoot free throws with no guarantee that the rockets would get the ball afterwards. Correct me if i'm wrong.
You're basing this statement on the 2 free throws he's shot in this entire series? In that case, Tim Duncan is the best 3 point shooter in the playoffs so far this year.
This is one of rare mistakes that RA has made in his first year with the Rockets. He's probably stunned by the comeback as well. Other major mistakes that he made throughout the season 1. Play Yao too much 2. Didn't rest Rafer earlier before the playoffs started
That was Tim Duncan's first three pointer this SEASON--I'm not talking playoffs alone. Deke hasn't really had the opportunity to shoot free throws during this series.
You keep arguing what would go wrong AFTER we get the rebound. I think your priority is a little messed up. I would take having Deke/Chuck on the line shooting free throws than giving up the rebound to Okur.
Yes, but free throw % isnt everything. Ask nick anderson. If I had to choose between landry, tmac, chuck, and deke. It'd be Landry Tmac Deke Chuck
Exactly. Having Williams miss the two free throws is pretty much the best case scenario we could have hoped for (along with the rebound, of course). Having Deke shoot free throws as opposed to Okur getting the rebound? It's a no brainer...
Btw, I've already addressed that Landry had the best positioning. In terms of bigs, he's our best athlete. If I wanted a rebound, he'd be the player I'd use. In my opinion, he's the best rebounder on the team. As such, it'd be illogical to replace him with deke/chuck. However, the hypothetical scenario is that landry is out and chuck or deke is in his spot. And if thats the case, I'll assume that he gets the rebound. Thats why i'm addressing foul shooting. Theres nothing wrong with my priorities. I'm just thinking things through.
