If we were to work a trade to get rid of Rice and Cato contracts, how much would it bring us under the salary cap?

    Sorry - Improperly framed question-

We have to trade $ for $ value - near equal to within 15%. So we will still be over the cap if we can dump Cato and Rice contracts- assuming we trade the #1 pick with them for a veteran.

If the veteran is a high quality player we have more to show for the money.

I say we take Ming with the pick, and buy out or live with the Rice and Cato contracts-I do not know what else to do.

These bad contracts give us less options......

On paper the Rice contract at 9 milliion plus, and Cato at 6 million plus add up to 15 million plus-significant money

You can buy out a contract, but it still counts against the cap.
