hey, a buddy of mine said he got really sketchy off 3 shots of this stuff. i don't drink, but i am almost tempted to go for a couple shots just for the experience. what do you guys know about it?

Absinthe is safe. It has an unfair bad reputation. If I remember correctly, it is illegal to buy in the US, but not to bring in from somewhere else. You are supposed to place an absinthe spoon (with slots in it) over the top of the glass, place a sugar cube in the spoon, light it, and let the carmelized sugar melt in. Then use the spoon to stir. There are more dangerous ways to tweak it, but you don't want to do that.
oh, and how much do you recommend me drinking. i've never drank...is there something i could do to prep myself for this - is it even worth it - or should i just not worry about it cuz it's not all that special?

There's a 99% that whatever you're drinking is fake since wormwood (what makes you hallucinate) is illegal in most of the world. Last I checked you could only get the legit stuff in about 5 countries.

k...i don't know when i'm gonna do it...just gonna keep on gettin info. i'm 19 and home for the summer from college. and i would get in a ton of trouble if i got caught tryin this stuff out - but i'm curious as to the effect and the whole "creativity" thing that seems to come from it. so i might try it this weekend depending where i'm at...or maybe while i'm back in college -- no idea.
Take it easy since even if you drink fake stuff it's incredibly potent and will get you drunk verrrrrrrry fast.

Did it at a bachelor party before we went out. A friend picked up a bottle in eastern Europe. First off all, its the most vile tasting shot I have ever ever had. The sugar does not help. I haven't done other stuff so I can't truly compare it to anything else other than regular alcohol. More than anything, everyone was just really hammered really quickly. I wish I could be more helpful, but I just remember running an excessive amount, almost as if I was on a sugar high.....
Well Paris is one of the worst since France was quick to ban it (shortly after 1910) and since the area of Switzerland where the famous "absinthe murder" (the man drank wine nonstop all day, but since he had two glasses of absinthe, spearated by 8-10 hours, it was blamed) occured was French-speaking (meaning they are extra sensitive). In any event, you can still get the real stuff in parts of Switzerland and I think it is still legal in Spain...they bring it in from Switzerland, though...and that might have changed due to all the EU stuff. 3814, I have not heard of the water part, but you do it to individual taste, so it could be done by somebody somewhere. You can order absinthe spoons online, by the way. I haven't been checking the links, so don't know what those sites say. They probably mention the liquorice-like taste, though. Basically though, absinthe will get you drunk similar to alcohol and at times can trigger mild hallucination. Ah, the joys of graduate research...becoming an expert in alcohol that has been banned in most countires for 100 years...
