Sorry to drag up an old thread but i managed to get a fifth of Pere Kermann's absinthe from a friend who vacationed in Budapest and am about to try it in a minute. One thing that concerns me though. I just did the ice water through sugar cubes into it, diluted it about 3:1 and it didn't "louche", or go cloudy. I'm afraid it might be a fake or something. It's green and the bottle was sealed so I dont think its been tampered with but was wondering if anyone knows anything about that particular brand... Is Pere Kermann's the good stuff? I tried googling it but theres an accent over the second e in pere so I didnt find much in the way of advice. Thanks in advance!
I brought back a bottle of Hill's Absinth (no "e" in their spelling) when I was in Prague about a month or two ago. I had a few glasses (spoon, sugar cube, the whole nine), but I didn't notice anything other than the usual mild buzz drinking a few glasses of anything would produce. I know Hill's is the real deal, too. A friend told me some people have to try it a few times to get the desired effect, much like what happens when a person doesn't get stoned the first time they smoke out. I keep meaning to try it again, but I always wind up doing something else.
I've wanted to try his after I read the article in Wired a couple months ago. What do you think? Was this your first time?
Whoa, wtf did I type yesterday. Maybe I had some absinthe. I meant to say you could look up a key command that could get you the right accent so that you could properly look up the name of the bottle.
There just isn't enough absinthe talk on the boards. I may have to get a bottle soon, and try it. How was the effect on your bottle of ... Orleans?
I bought a bottle once........somewhere up in Vancouver, if I remember correct. They only had a few kinds, so I bought the most expensive one. Never got more than a typical alcohol buzz and the type of hangover associated with cheap booze. If I had to label one type of alcohol as having some kind of drug in it, I'd still have to say that tequila is the closest thing. Absinthe tastes really bad too. Anyway, just one man's opinion.
My experiences with absinthe has always been being really drunk and really hyper at the same time. Maybe it's the sugar. Didn't really see any green fairies though.
I got a few bottles from Amsterdam, Paris, and Barcelona. I have never hallucinated though, just got smashed.
What I want to know is, does rum and Diet Coke really have no (or few) carbs? Inquiring minds, who enjoy a Cuba Libre with Myers's on occasion, want to know.
anyone been to the new bar called Absinthe? A buddy told me about it and they sell their own version of absinthe
