exactly. it's not he's unwilling, it's he's unable most of the time. and tony parker is willing and able. so stop the comparison. ab is not gonna become parker. i'm fine with his filling his role. i just don't think he's the best pg suited for our current roster.
Aaron passes the ball to Yao more than some people on this board says. If you read some of the post on this board you would think Aaron has not made one single pass to Yao ever.
He's only seen as selfish by some fans because they expect PGs to have a lot of assists. Tese fans are either too young or dont understand how the game has changed. Seems like we have a lot of them. He's a scoring point, he's not going to rack up assists consistently and it's very important for him to look to score because he can. That opens up the game for Yao and the others, which is a big reason why Adelman urges him to try to score immediately. His size doesn limit his view, or at least the angle he has on some passes, so although he may see an open player, he can't always get him the ball, but i dont think it's that common, some people just see it once or twice and say it happens all the time because that's what sticks in their head. So no, he's not selfish.
also, you could pretty much ask questions like these about several players. It's all based on knee jerk reactions or lack of understanding of a player's game or the game plan or taking one or two examples and blowing them up like they happen all the time or are facts. It's like fans saying Cook has never scored when he actually has. Or saying that Artest is selfish and sucks, when he's saved a lot of games for us, or saying Shane was washed up when he was just recovering from injury. There's days when Lowry sucks also. Or the idea that barry's contributions are purely 3 point shots when he brings so much through experience and coaching. I could go on and on.
I think Adelman's offense is designed so that assists are spread pretty evenly among all players and not just in the PG. Aaron is fine, let him grow as a player.
Brook's has made several great passes to Yao, but the problem is most of the passes he makes to him look more like he's just desperate to get Yao the ball anywhere. I don't think it's selfishness, and I'm not even sure his height is the major problem - he's just bad at it now - and it will hurt us particularly in the playoffs.
Hopefully he will get better at passing the ball to Yao. I know one thing, earlier this year when Aaron was trying to be a playmaker instead of a scorer he didn't look to good. I would rather him try to look for his own shot.
That is a very good point. He should play to his strengths because it's enough pressure being named the starting point guard so late in the season. What I think he could do though is improve on his drives to the basket. He's gotten too deep at times and gotten in trouble when trying to score. For some reason it seems like since the trade he's has not used his tear drop as much as before.
I wonder if Lowry playing so good when he first got here put pressure on Aaron? Could be the case, he just needs to relax and by himself though.
I wouldn't be opposed to it if management felt like it is a necessary move. But if that happens I think Brooks will be traded.
Brooks is not really selfish as much as he does what he can within the system. People were on Rafer for not taking or making enough shots and now they are on Aaron when he makes most of his'. He isn't Steve Nash in court awareness, he isn't Chris Paul or Deron Williams in all around skills, but he is effective enough that we really shouldn't have this much whining for the backup, and we know from experience that he is constantly getting better. It is ridiculous for all these "critiques" to keep popping up about us needing to make changes when this is what we have and the only other option really isn't that much better.
He's bobby jackson part 2. Put him on the bench, bring him in for up tempo scoring. Ideally he should be subbed in for Yao... we have Yao tempo... and then we have non-Yao tempo...
How about the all-athletic lineup: Landry James White Wafer Brooks Lowry Forget about defense: we'll do our own version of 7 seconds or less. Lowry already plays with an attacking mindset, Brooks is certainly capable of taking and making early in the shotclock wide open shots, Landry is a great finisher, Wafer is perfect for this lineup, and James White'll play "power forward" and finish alley oops. Opponents will have a nightmare matching up with this group after getting bludgeoned with our starting Yao-centric lineup and then having to catch up to with our Golden State Warriors lineup.
I think he has been playing to his strengths, which is why some people are complaining in the first place. His strengths are scoring, not passing, so people get on him for that, but that's his game. I think it's important to note that teams now have more reason to focus on him. As a back up, opponents arent going to study him much, so he could go out and do his thang and opponents werent going to know his moves by heart. Now that he's starting, teams have scouted him closely and are adjusting to him, so that's going to cause him problems, but he'll work through it.
i dont see a real benefit to this. He's overall more talented and experienced than Brooks and Lowry, but on a team where the offense is so spread around he would sort of be playing at a lower level. Still at a good level, just not typical Mike bibby. Plus he's getting older and Brooks and lowry are our future. You'd practically be renting him for a year or two. It's the same issue as with Nash. You're possibly sacrificing several more years of being contenders for one or two. Its difficult to find starting point guards in this league unless you're drafting high, which we wouldn't be int he next two years.
This post requires further examination. Sure, on the year, his numbers have been dreadful. However, if we look at Brooks ever since the Alston trade, it tells a much different story. I can't give an exact %, but looking at his February and March numbers, he's averaging a hair under 40% from 3, and about 45% from 2, and 83% from 1. That's pretty darn efficient, So, if selfish means that he's taking too many shots, perhaps this is by design.
He's not selfish, just not a pass first guard. In my mind, he's better as a back up and Lowry as the starter.
