Well, Isabel be damned, I'm leaving on a 5 day cruise out of Galveston on Monday. We're taking the Carnival Jubilee and will be stopping in Cozumel and Calica (Playa del Carmen). We're planning on going to Xcaret when we dock in Calica and just go snorkelling off of the beach while in Cozumel. Anyone have any hints, tips, tricks or last minute advice? Thanks.
On Cozemel you jump in a taxi and head 5 minutes down to Chankanab (sp?) State Park. It is a very well appointed park for sunning , snorkleing and diving. The vendors there rent scuba equipment to anybody, you don't have to have an open water diver card. The reef is right off shore and the fish are friendly. It is a primo spot. Also, I heard you need to make a reservation in advance to swim with the dolfins at Xcaret. They have a web site and I bet an 800 number.
in cozumel you can rent a scooter ($30-$45/day) and take it down to the palancar reef. pretty good snorkeling over there and not touristy at all. its about a 20min ride on the scooter.
