an admitted steroids user getting in? doubtful. have you seen what happened to mark mcgwire? he doesnt get anywhere near the amount of needed votes to get in.

Except that Mcgwire has never admitted to using steroids; he's denied it despite it being contrary to fact. Be interesting to see if the public, and more specifically the voters, are forgiving to those who have admitted to using. I'm thinking Arod has a much better chance of getting into the Hall than Bonds and Clemens.

Why does admitting it make it any better? Cheating is cheating

I think he still will just because HE HAS ADMITTED. He has given more information as well, telling that he did it from 2001 to 2003.

guess i should have clarified, i didnt mean to say mcgwire admitted, but even just his use of andro has left him hopeless of getting in.

i dont think he will. he gave a presser that was totally ridiculous, left a bunch of gray area and questions to be answered. on top of it, not allowing the media to ask follow up questions, i dont think the writers/voters appreciated that

Another thing, he still has TIME to make up for it. If he gets some world series rings, and he is great in both playoffs and regular season, he'll make it.

Arod still has around 5-6 years to put up good numbers. Its not like hes retiring tomorrow. He will make the hall of fame.

again, doubtful. its really going to depend who the HOF voters are. look at bonds and others, their accomplishments arent going to get them in. when it comes down to the voting, the media releases the names eligible for HOF induction, you start to hear those talks, well he admitted to using roids, albeit in a very vague and no followup question press conference. i think that might come back to bite him in the rear.

I think more people are caught with steroids and other drugs in the NFL than any other sport.

Mcgwire is the first of the known steroid users to have been up for hall consideration right? So I wonder if the voters are using him to send a message. I wonder if, in time, steroid users in this era will get more consideration or actually be inducted. Or again, if they relax a little bit on players who admit guilt.

I do think honesty accounts for something...even if the players that have admitted to using were still a little vague. Takes a big man to get in front of a camera and admit you made mistakes...and a coward to stand there and lie about it, time and time again.

i think it is likely that in time, some known or highly speculated steroid users will be in. lets face it, there are people in the hall that are cheats, in the 70's amphetamines were used widely, the problem is that baseball is trying to clean up, so some of these steroid era players with ridiculous numbers will be left out. just wont make it in in time before the majority of the writers/voters look past it. also, when that time comes, i see a huge push for rose and shoeless joe to be put in as well, will it happen? i doubt it, but there will be a huge push

ARod, Bonds and Clemens will all get into the HOF on the first ballot. McGwire was an average player that hit home runs at a ridiculous pace. Beyond hitting home runs, he didn't do much. The steroid controversy aside, I don't think he belongs in the HOF.

well said. McGwire is a fringe HOFer with or without the steroids issue.

A-rod is an amazing player, with or without steroids. He puts up numbers every year...i have a hard time thinking that he has been taking roids his entire career.
