With all the so-called projections, and predictions by the self-proclaimed experts, I'm still dismayed at the lack of respect that the Rockets receive. Now I have a pretty thick skin, and I can take most of the excrement written by the national sportswriters on the Rockets, but enough is enough. Like I said quick rant, so case-in-point:

    - Eddie Griffin was a highly touted prospect, and considered the potential number one pick, he slips to seventh and is miraculously stolen...errr...I mean traded for by the Rockets. After that Griffin is seen as a not too-hot prospect, and has attitude problems that may hurt the team. Now we all know had he gone to the Bulls, Wizards, or any other team, and he would be the favorite for ROY.

    - I read my friend's TSN magazine (October 17th issue), and see an article stating that Steve Francis will be one of the greatest PG's in the league. But then I read on and it states...[One former slam dunk champion was so impressed by Francis that he said he wouldn't be suprised to see Francis join his hometown team after his childhood idol decides to hang it up for good]. I mean I know Francis isn't a lock to resign but come on, what about the Rockets having some nice young talent and trying hard to make the playoffs.

I know having been a Rockets fan for a longtime, I am used to the disrespect that the Rockets receive, however its just too much, and sadly its only the preseason. Sorry I lied this wan't quick, but you get the point of the message.

I think all that will change. Last season only one game was broadcast nation wide on TNT. This season they will show 7 TNT games and 3 TBS games of the Rockets, ten games in total. That means the Rockets are getting more attention for the fact that the Rockets are a more exciting team to watch. Remember how they would constanly show Lakers and Kings games. I hated that! Now they will show more Rockets.

couldn't agree with you more. an absolute disgrace how little they know. do they even bother doing any research? do they spend all there time at work searching the net for p*rn and then quickly write something 15min before the deadline?

case in point is this gem from fox sports (today). "Ranking" the Rox 23 is a complete joke, almost 10 spots below Denver (like no McD isn't going to kill them :D)!

OMG! I find the 'lack of respect' topic tired; we have dealt with it for years (including our championships). BUT 23RD TAKES THE CAKE. What a bonehead.

Wow, that ranking was truly impressive in its idiocy.

Miss Cleo could probably have done a better job.

Its suprising that anyone would predict that young team with its two best players returning an the addition of Rice would fall below 8 teams that had worse records than they did last year including the Wizards! He lost credibility the second he put the wizards in the top half of the NBA...Jordan or no Jordan.

I never usually respond to predictions like this, but my frustration level has reached an all-time high. Below is the email I sent to this bozo. Mike Monroe's email address is mmonroe@foxsports.com.

The lack of respect the Rockets receive by the national media never ceases to amaze me, but 23rd? Have you watched any of the Rockets preseason games?

The Rockets destroyed the Eastern conference last year and finished with the best record for any team not to make the playoffs in league history. This year Francis and Mobley are already showing that they have elevated their games yet again. The Rockets added Rice, Griffin, Morris, Torres, and Willis during the offseason. Griffin is ready to contribute now at the 4, Morris at the 3, and Torres at the 2. All three are defensive specialists that play with a lot of intensity and have already been giving teams like San Antonio fits.

How can a young, improving team that won 45 games last year and improved over the off season drop to 23rd? Olajuwon was not a major contributor last year except for one month. Anderson provided nothing. The Rockets are much better off with their current cast and are headed toward a middle playoff seed in the West. When that happens, I hope you will take the time to correct and explain your reasoning. My money's on laziness and a lack of research.

    Hey Rocket Addict,
Awesome e-mail, but I don't know if Mike Monroe will understand anything you're saying. That's how freaking idiotic he is.
It's kind of a frustrating fact that this guy gets pretty good money and publicity for being as absolutely dumb as he is.
He makes folks like Vescey and Aldridge seem like the cream of the crop, and that's saying alot, because those characters are more like the cream of the crap.
These idiots should get docked money everytime they make a wrong prediction...that'll keep em in check...or make em broke. :D

You are right bout that. Aldridge and Vescey are 2 of the most hard headed writers in the business. Hell, I would rather listen to Jim Rome then these 3 idiots. At least Rome gave "Franchise' props and prasies the Rockets most of the time. He always has Francis on his show once in awhile and even talked to the Cat one time and said that he voted for him for Sixth Man a few years back. Monroe will just still be stupid like the other 2 and just join the bandwagon, rooting for the Fakers, Queens, and the Wizards. Its an insult for him proclaiming that he is a so-called writing "expert".

Keep in mind that Monroe ranked the Bulls 26th saying they had young talent. Anyone who does not rank the Bulls last has absolutely no credibility. All I know is that I am going to save these rankings to show Monroe at the end of the season what a fool he is.

Man, reading that Monroe's predictions and seeing him flashing that ugly mug of his made me madder and madder. I sent Mr. Monroe an email and here it is:

    Dear Mr. Monroe,
Are you on crack? How in the hell can you justify picking the Rockets as the 23rd best team in the NBA, especially behind such teams like the Wizards, the Nets, and the Nuggets. Are you that stupid or did you have a lapse of temporary insanity?? Let me tell you something...the Wizards aren't going do s*** this year even with his highness being back. All of you sportswriters make me sick with your constant sticking of your noses up Jordan's arse! The Wizards will be lucky to win 30 games this year. I even think that Jordan will get so disgusted with losing that he will quit before the season is even over!

The Nets have never shown anything. They got Jason Kidd...big freaking deal! Other than Van Horn and Martin, the Nets don't have anything else and Van Horn and Martin aren't much. I can go on and on, but it is pointless and I doubt any of it will sink into your thick skull. I am not an agressive person usually, but seeing something like "your predictions" is too much to take.

News flash for you, Einstein: Rockets won 45 games last year and they are a better team this year than last season. How are they going to fall to the 23rd best team in the league?? Can you explain that?? Olajuwon was not that big of an impact the last 2 years, so don't go there. It's not like the Rockets have played without him the last 2 seasons. Did you know Mr. Monroe that the great Olajuwon has not played a full season in a while and he has averaged around 60 games the last 2 seasons? Yes, the Rockets are suspect up front with Cato, but he has played good in the pre-season. Kenny Thomas has looked good plus we got Kevin Willis and don't forget the 2 rookies in Eddie Griffin and Terrence Morris. Also, we got the best backcourt in the NBA and if Glen Rice has anywhere of a decent season, we will be a good team..good enough to be in the Western playoffs.

It sickens me that someone like you could have this job when it's obvious that an infant could do a better job of making predictions. To call you an expert is laughable and that is putting it mildly. Thanks to you, I'm never gonna go to the Foxsports website. At least not until there are signs of people working for Fox that have a clue.

    Sincerely,

    A pissed off Rockets fan

    A-FREAKKIN-MEN!

What kills me is that these writers are getting a hefty payroll no matter what they are saying. Hell, I could be making better predictions and wouldn't mind getting 1/10th of his salary. :D <-- This smiley face has more teeth than him.

Yea, I sent it to him. The way I look at it is if you are that stupid to make predictions like that, then you deserve to be blasted. I recommend everyone to email this clown like Rocket Addict and me did and give him a piece of your mind.

We all can make better predictions than that, well at least most of us.

A surefire way to get respect is to ask the writer if he is on crack in the first sentence of your letter...

People, it's much better when your team is the underdog. And I believe Monroe wrote a great article on Olajuwon after the '95 run talking about how there was no way you could leave him out of any rating of the top 5 players of all-time...I don't think this guy (or anyone else for that matter) has it in for the Rockets. Heck, Jon Feigen only picked the Rockets as an 8-seed in the West...that's pretty much the bare minimum you could expect from a homer writer.
