    I'm sorry to start a thread about this but it's driving me mad. Isn't Biggio one of the few full time players in history to not hit into a double play for an entire season? I thought I read that somewhere and was arguing it with my dumb a@$ friend. Let me know if i'm right or just stupid.Thanks.

    1997. I don't if anyone else has done it, but I know Biggio accomplished the feat.

    No one else had done it for 162 games when Biggio did it. i think someone did it in a 150 game season way back.

    My, how quickly you guys forget Derrick "6-4-3" Bell. Ol' "Captain Loopswing" himself. His career really turned around in Houston. He went from a proven run producer to a bona fide piece of crap.

    Heh I just looked it up and sure enough Brad Ausmus holds the NL record for most GIDP's in a season at 30. Good call.

    That record might be in jeopardy. I heard on the radio tonight that Miguel Tejada grounded into his 26th double play today.

    Why would we want that guy? ;)

    And interestingly Albert Pujols is tied for the NL record for rookies.

    While a dubious record, this one seems too subjective to measure a hitter (Ausmus notwithstanding). The batter does not have control of whether or not someone is on base for his PA's.

    I'm pretty sure Tony Womack has the record for consecutive at-bats without a double play. I guess when he did hit into one it showed up on the year's stats. I just looks nice on paper though going a whole season 162 games with a big ZERO there for double plays. Biggio really used to have some wheels on him in the younger days and before the injury. Impressive still.

    While we're on obscure stats, in 2004, Jeff Kent was 2nd in the NL in Sac Flies, and 4th in GIDP. (I had thought he led both categories, so I looked it up.) That has to be a really tough combination to get.
