I think we should be out there courting Morris Petersen right now! He would be the perfect 6th man to come off the bench and give us some firepower. He might be able to be had for fairly cheap too!

Report says Jazz a front-runner to sign Peterson

    By Tim Buckley
    Deseret Morning News
A Cleveland newspaper reported Friday that the Jazz are one of the top contenders to land Toronto free-agent swingman Mo Peterson.
The Cleveland Cavaliers had been among several teams with supposed interest in the seven-season veteran from Michigan State, but The Plain Dealer reports that now "it appears Peterson will not play with the Cavs next season."
According to the Cleveland paper, "the Jazz and the New Orleans Hornets have become the front-runners."
Peterson, a potential successor to the departing Derek Fisher as Utah's starting shooting guard, is expected to be in town beginning Sunday for a visit with Jazz brass.
HMMM: The Jazz "will likely trade one of their shooting guards this summer," the Daily Herald newspaper reported after listening to Jazz owner Larry H. Miller speak this week to Rotary Club members in Provo.
The Jazz currently have four shooting guards on their roster: veteran backup Gordan Giricek; restricted free agent C.J. Miles; 2006 first-round draft choice Ronnie Brewer, also a small forward; and 2007 first-rounder Morris Almond.
"I know a lot of people have been nervous about our log jam at shooting guard," the paper quoted Miller as saying. "With our draft pick (Almond) we have four. Before the end of the summer we may be down to two or three. There will be some activity at that position for us almost surely as we move to bolster other things. We do have players on the team at 2 (shooting guard) who a lot of other teams like, so we can help ourselves at other positions."

we could sign him for part of the MLE (he's asking for full) and get a PF by trading our expiring contracts (Sura, Snyder, VSpan= $8 million)

We are arguably the deepest team in the NBA at the swing positions... Even if we traded both Snyder and Head it still doesnt make much of an impact. Bonzi will contribute this year.

Let Peterson play for someone like the Jazz where he can make an impact and make something of his mediocre career.

With the additions of Brooks and James, not to mention the recommitment of bonzi, we don't need bench scoring. We need a PF

mo pete would be good...but darko, or haslem, or amir would benefit the team way more...

Tmac said he want a PF AND ANOTHER PERIMETER SCORER. MoPete fits that. They cna get a pf through a trade because there are no good pf FAs. Mopete would be good for the mle.

Well we did acquire Mike James who's one season removed from averaging 20pt/game and it also looks like Bonzi Wells might be in shape and actually see the floor this year. If that's not enough Brooks is lightning fast, can get to the hoop at will and shoots it well from the outside. That should pretty much cover the additional perimeter scoring. Now PF still needs some help.

Tracy McGrady. Shane Battier. Mike James. Bonzi Wells. Luther Head. Kirk Snyder.

Hmmm, not exactly sure we need another swing player.

If a perimeter scorer is what the Rockets needed, Mike James definitely helps in that area. Bonzi in the past played 2-guard but really is not the most perimeter oriented player. The Rockets besides McGrady don't have a real 2 guard who can hit from outside and defend. Morris Peterson could provide that.

For some reason though, I could see it being like a Derek Anderson thing. He could either keep doing what he's always done, or start declining fast. So shore up the power forward spot first, THEN get the Mo Petes.
