Honestly . . .one more thing . . .this is typical
Demos will let the Reps off the hook
    but
    the reverse is never true
    and
then the Demos wonder why they always lose

You forget that Dems are godless and Jesus only loves Repubs therefore this does not compute.

Ha, I always knew you guys secretly love arguing with TJ, basso, etc.

Uh....I think you may be digging too deep into all this. It's just a silly little internet bet....

I thought you were proposing we sell our children to the rich to be used as food.

And you have some dems building up Obama already and he hasn't even got into office yet.

Right now all we know is he's a helluva speaker and great campaigner. We've got 4 years to find out what he's made of as a president.

This is the truth. Obama has been put way to high, and expectations need to come down. Obama will have a hard time meeting a lot of what people are expecting. He is a great unkown. Lets wait and see before we annoint him anything.

First off, I don't know why everybody keeps bringing George and basso up. They were both too chicken to take any bet so neither is subject to any bet-based ban.

To all those asking what's the point of the bet if the bans aren't enforced, from my perspective at least, the point of the bet was that it served as one more way of messing with each other in the run-up to the election.

Having won, I'm not feeling in a mood personally to mete out punishments. And I'm not especially happy about being without folks like Fatty or IROC it or thumbs.

But that's all just my opinion. The only bet I had was with OMR and the loser just had to donate $100 to the tip jar. I'm sure OMR will be happy to honor that one.

I was wondering. Batman, was the reference intentional?

No. I knew some might take it that way, but I don't know what the correlation would be. I just used those words because I wanted to make a proposal and I thought it was (for me, at least) uncharacteristically modest.

Yes, that's in the real platform that was, in most circles, unprinted, or printed only in Etruscan symbols. This is in phase II of the Great Awakening.

I din't take any bet or propose any bet and think the idea of an internet bet was pretty stupid to begin with. I will say though if you are foolish enough to make a bet you should honor that bet and live up to your word even if the person that you made it with releases you from it.

Yeah, the attitude of betting on this like a sports game is pretty damn stupid, but whoever bet on it or have some sig obligations should honor their word for whatever their username cred is worth.

Who took the bet? Iroc and Fatty and thumbs? totally let them off, those were the dolphins that got caught in the net trying to implement some sort of accountability measure for T_J and his ilk. Of course he did not take the bet, because his political perspective would not work if accountability was involved. He is a chicken and he is fringe, and avoiding the bet (despite many projections of a glorious Obama meltdown..) does serve as a useful demonstration of his lack of courage for his own convictions. I need to check out his blog, I wonder what is on it.

I am thinking about self-banning from this forum. Something about volunteering for the campaign, winning, Obama's acceptance speech and the aftermath brought out a very non-cynical part of me, and I would like to put my time towards something more politically constructive. Like, it finally struck me as weird that expend even one second of time reading posts by basso or bigtexx or whoever else, and another second replying to them. It's not a terribly good use of that energy, I am thinking. I am all for listening to people who are politically different, and understanding other points of view. But I think what I get from the thoughtful conservative posters (and the thoughtful progressive ones) is not worth the energy used to flip through the mean spirited hackery here. I dont know. Any other regulars sort of feeling D/D hangover at this point? I am for sure. Maybe it will wear off, but I sort of hope it does not.

The first part of your post I agree with. The second part I have mixed feelings about. I can certainly understand why some need to take time away from here, from time to time. It can be a frustrating place. I almost threw my hands up during the primaries and walked away for a while, because it simply wasn't fun for me. That's my main reason for being here, the enjoyment of political discussion, talking about the issues of the day. For me, the pluses outweigh the minuses, but I respect those who find that not to be true. I almost walked away recently, but it had nothing to do with D&D or the BBS. Life has its own demands on us.
