So, I'm down in Tucson taking a class about making decisions under stress when I find out I got chosen for a new job... which I immediately accepted. I'll be heading off to Southern Oregon to work in Medford. Good promotion, lots more stuff happening there, a bunch of interagency action, and still an opportunity to play with fire. Speaking of Fire, this week I got acccepted to the highest level training class anyone in Incident Management can attend... only four people in my position get accepted every two years. If I pass this class next March (you literally have to prepare for a year and about 35% fail), I'll be as high as you can go and be able to work as Command Staff Lead on the most complex incidents. Additionally, my oldest daughter got her poem published in the monthly school newsletter and got bumped up to the next fastest group in her swim team. Also, my wife got asked to help instruct a bellydance seminar in Vegas and got asked to be on the local Airport Board (which she'll have to turn down since we're moving, but it was still an accomplishment). We also found an abandoned Chocolate Lab wandering around the hinterlands that we have adopted. She's about 10 weeks old and has the makings of a really good dog. My guess is that she was abandoned because she's lively and puppy nips everyone. All her problems are correctable, so we've already started working on her, though she did chew through my seatbelt when I left her in the car for about 15 minutes. ($115 to fix... Grrrr). But still, she'll be fine when she learns a few things. Last but certainly not least, my youngest daughter, who was born August 30th (the cut off for grades) and has a slight speech impediment, has made such great progress over the last 3 months that her pre-school teacher and speech therapist both agree she should start Kindergarten next year. We really thought about holding her back because of the speech issue and since she will always be the absolute youngest in her class due to her birthdate, but getting told that she's made enough progress and is more than smart enough to go forward is great news. All in all, a decent week for the rimrocker household.
Outstanding! Congratulations, rimrocker. Wonderful news about your youngest daughter. (my sister has a novel on the shelves of Barnes and Noble, and Borders... it's been a good week for us, as well. )
Good news! Congrats on your job and your wife can belly dance? Wow, lucky man. My girlfriend can barely shake A Also good to hear about your daughter's progress
Wow! That went right past me. Your wife can belly dance good enough to be an instructor, rimster? In Vegas??
OK, more like assistant to the lead instructor of one class that is part of a larger seminar put on by a really famous bellydancer. Guess I should have made that part clearer. Still, she is at the point where she can dance with swords on her head.
Very cool, RR... Who else had a good week? These things seem to happen in groups. I had a great week. I accepted a new job yesterday and treated myself to a guitar amp (Vox AC-30 + Rickenbacker 360 = tone for days)... Now I get to take two weeks of paid vacation, get used to the new amp, and then start a new job with a 25% raise... woohoo!
Congrats. The family news is all great......but the Oregon part is what spoke to me. Great area. If you want to celebrate all the goodness with your wife, take her here: www.tututun.com I absolutely love it there. I'll always be a Texan and a Rocket fan, but given the right opportunity (read: a good job for my wife and a decent job for me), I'd move to Oregon in a heartbeat. I'm sure your family will absolutely love it.
This thread is useless without pictures of your wife. Bellydancing. Your daughter, too, if she's legal. Video and/or an animated gif would work well, too.
Not a chance of me doing that for all you pervs and photoshop mavens. One's 9 and the other is 4. Again, no chance, especially when they reach legal age.
Congratulations rimrocker... all great developments. I shared a hot-tub this evening with five Russians here in town for the Spring Furniture Market.... One of them said to me, "You have a very nice country.... at least for us!"
OK, the day has arrived... I take off tomorrow morn for a new life in Oregon. Here's another picture... If you look in the valley between the river and the mountain, you'll see the outskirts of Medford. I'll be living about five miles to the right of the picture's edge. Here's a better view of the town... The big open piece at the top of the photo is the airport and our house is above and slightly to the left. Cutting out of the BBS action for awhile. Carry on and have fun. For those in D&D... play nice.
