This will only happen after Chuck Norris breaks Bill Belichick's neck and becomes the new head coach of the Patriots!
the amazing thing about that play wasnt the fact that flutie completed a successful drop kick, but his reaction afterwards. he ran to the sidelines like he had just won the super bowl and hugged bellicheck (sp). it was actually pretty cool, i just couldnt figure out why he was so excited. was it because it might be his last game to ever play in, or becuase he has his own little piece of history or what?
I swear that I read a story about 10-12 years ago in SI dealing with a New England QB who was aching to try the drop kick. I believe it was Flutie but am not sure... Part of the issue with the drop kick is IIRC that the ball has changed so that it is inflated to a greater pressure, and it has been reshaped to be more pointy and aerodynamic to benefit the forward pass. Here is the ball as it exists now: Ball used from 1912-1930 when the forward pass was introduced: Pre-forward pass football from 1880-1905: A rugby ball which is more like the old-style football:
You have to hike the ball to start the play. I think you could kick it from one foot behind the line of scrimage, but I'm pretty sure it'd get blocked.
What codec do you need for that? I'm at a relatives house and they don't have the necesarry codec installed. I only heard the sound, no video.
How in the world has Chuck Norris become so popular all in a sudden? I think I see his name in 50% of the threads lately.
Chuck Norris has always been popular, where the hell have u been. Thats it, i'm coming over to roundhouse u in the Face.
I would hide if Chuck Norris was coming over. But I think I can whoop the ass of this pradapimp any day of the week.
The Ball cannot be advanced past the line of scrimmage on a FG try, hence the kicker has to be about 7-8 yards behind the original LOS to get off a decent kick. 7-8 yards + 10 yard the distance of the end zone, I usually just add 17 to the LOS and I already can tell how long the FG would be. This is why am I much better person than you.
Chuck Norris hates the pansies who only talk tough on the internet most. He'd roundhouse you to the othe side of the Atlantic Ocean.
DivX. Try http://www.divx.com/divx/. With a little practice you can get the perfect drop and kick at the perfect time. On grass, the football won't bounce so much so you have almost little chance to miss it. Notice that he takes 1 second to find the threads and then drop it, and then he kicks it Futbol-syled with, not the side of his foot or his tip, but with his laces (instep drive)
Its funny....I used to kick them all the time in high school with an NFL ball when we didnt have a Rugby League ball to use. The big difference with the NFL ball is that you have to drop it right on its end and be more accurate with where you strike the ball...just because its smaller and its shape is different. With a Rugby League ball (Which is between an NFL and Rugby ball) Ive seen players kick field goals from 55 meters out in a game situation.
Reading these and watching the video again, I think I know what you guys are alluding to? By kicking the ball immediately as it's rebounding from the ground, you seem to be able to " vector sum " the momentum and steal a portion of the elastic/kinetic energy of the rebound for your kick. IIRC, it is a powerful enough effect that you can double or triple how far you could kick otherwise (although at a somewhat flatter trajectory that you'd expect) and if you've never done it before the added power is somewhat amazing. Is this what you are talking about?
