Now, see, that's just STUPID. I have some small speakers in my studio that could kick the neighbors in the ass if they wanted to. That's just idiotic.

    On mistakes, agree.

    On poverty, agree.

Costs, if a state's willing to pay, I don't see this as an issue unless you want to throw democracy out the window. You can't force people to do something that will benefit them. Vote. Contact your representative asking for death row money be used for schools. They need the money.

On racism, I would argue in a racist state with different levels of punishments for the same crime in which a jury gets to set the punishments, one ethnic group will face a larger amount of penalty. Since no punishment will be administered equally, you have three choices if justice must be administered equally: abolish the crime, set one punishment for murder, or attempt to correct racism.

Even though it is more likely for people to be sentenced to death for killing whites, there are more whites being killed by execution. I could see a death penalty advocate making the argument that the black community's victims are being shorted their vengeance of the death penalty. The biggest racism from the stats I find is victim based, not criminal based, but would be interested in finding some more detailed stats disproving these. If getting murdered didn't suck enough, you get racially discriminated against too.

I am strongly against the death penalty. I believe one mistake is justification in removing it. Would you be willing to die so some criminal is put to death instead of spending life in prison or my personal favorite would be exile to Siberia. Its kind of like a #6 draft pick and Rice trade for Lewis.

Death is the cruelest thing that can happen to life, in my opinion with the exception of death plus torture. Some people will argue rape is worse, but each person has their worst thing. I would not be against matching the punishment for rape with murder.

And a last note, this is a pet peeve of mine, but a lot of innocent people let off death row are not innocent. They are merely innocent of murder, but a rapist (hypothetical) is not an innocent person.
