Today, I see the pic in Yahoo. The dog named Petyon will check out patrons at the entrance of the US open tennis tournament. Is U.S.A.'s domestic security really such tense now?
When all the world's governments are quasi-capitalistic democracies, we won't have this problem. The future is clear- human beings will be free, and the United States will lead the way.
A police dog = tense? Regardless, in general, security is higher at all public events. Security will be even higher at the US Open because: 1. it's a Big Event 2. it's in New York
I understand what you're saying, and agree with you to a point. It would be beautiful if countries around the world adopted democratic political systems. But it's not our place to MAKE any country democratic, just as it's not theirs to make America dictatorial or socialist. Second, capitalism has nothing to do with democracy. They're two separate, often-conflicting ideas. Democracy is about freedom and liberty for all, with each having a voice in government. Democracy may be the most brilliant political idea in human history. But capitalism is the opposite -- it rewards the haves and punishes the have-nots, regardless of circumstance. It's systemically unfair. The rich have the power and the poor are powerless. I don't want a thread about a bomb dog to devolve into a debate about why capitalism is destroying the planet; I just wanted to offer a differing opinion.
I agree GreenV, that is why I used the word "quasi" in front of capitalism. Some smaller homogenous countries may operate better in Democratic Socialism. I will tell you one thing though. The most disappointing thing about this Iraq mess for me is that Liberals aka Democrats aka Lefties have not placed human freedom on the top of their priority list.
I am not a Democrat, a liberal, or a lefty and human freedom IS at the top of my list, I just think we need to free the people in our country before we go trying to "free" the rest of the world. Besides, the war was not sold to ME on the basis of human freedom, it was sold to me on the basis of Iraq's attempt to buy enriched uranium. (I know it was off topic, but he started it...nyeah...lol)
I can't take you seriously when you insinuate that some Americans are enslaved like Iraqis under Saddam.
There are a half million people in jail right now who have never harmed anyone. Police knock down doors and kill innocent people without warning of any kind. The justice system convicts innocent people on the word of a single undercover police officer who has a history of lying in court and is getting paid big money to bust people. There is plenty to work on here.
And I also note that you chose not to respond about how the war was sold to us. Your omissions are as informative as your rants.
Brag about it after the U.S. showing real sincerity on human freedom, guts and military prowess by defeating non-crippling rogue countries exactly when their people are suffering from lack of freedom, not only when such countries seem to pose a threat to U.S.. Furthermore, don't just hide behind computers typing about your USA world savior program on the idea of sending other people's children to the war field. Talk the talk and walk the walk. Grab a gun and do it yourself. Until then you aren't to be taken seriously.
That is your opinion, and society disagrees with you. You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than having the cops bust down your door mistakenly. Cops aren't perfect, and exaggerating their flaws won't win you any points. Juries put people in prison, not cops. Once again, it is society, your peers, that judge your opinion to be incorrect in these matters.
Why should I respond to a lie? The Bush administration informed me clearly why we were attacking Iraq, and your version is historical revisionism. Do you really want to have the same argument for the 100th time?
That is really funny. I wonder if you could say the same thing with a straight face in public. Oh, that's right you are one of the crowd that thinks that St. George can do no wrong. I am talking about MY experience and my experience is that the administration manipulated me into supporting this war with questionable evidence. I supported Afghanistan for many reasons, but the war with Iraq has not been justified. We should have spent that money rebuilding Afghanistan to be the model country of the Middle East.
You know, are we all sure that WMD was the ONLY reason Bush used to go to war? I seem to remember that there were a bunch of reasons, WMD's were just one of them. Remember, it's election time and the other party (notice I'm not blaming Democrats - same thing would happen in reverse if things were differenent) is going to do anything to win. Including repeating the same thing over and over and over and over in order to convice people that Bush is "bad". Remember how they kept repeating "it's just about sex" over and over completly ingnoring the "telling lies" part or the "sexual harasment" parts? Same thing here. They are just using the WMD as a mantra because they can in order to erode support for Bush. It's a dangerous one as well, because they still could be found. Saddam had plenty of time to hide them before the entered Iraq in his anticipation of the whole thing blowing over (like GW1). Don't fall for the opositions propoganda just like you shouldn't fall for the "party in powers" propoganda. Every intel service in the WORLD said Iraq had the weapons. British, Germans, Italians, US, French. Everyone of the them. The fact that they've been so well hidden is being exploited for politics. Also, notice that (with a few exceptions) the left-leaning members of this board are the ones who keep shouting this mantra over and over. They are just working to further the goals of their "team". While "Where are the WMD's?" is the right question, it's being used in the wrong context. Instead of being worried about where they've been moved to, people instead want to try to pin Bush for lying (instead of the world's Intel agencies). And it's not about "the truth" it's all about political gain.
