can someone give a comparative look at ronnie brewer and rodney carney? i didn't get a chance to watch any of their games closely this year. from personal viewing, what is the extent of their abilities, and how do you think each would fit in with the Rox?
If Splitter has contract problems then I don't see why he would even stay in the draft if he starts falling down the first round charts. The idea is that he needs as big a contract as he can get in order to pay off his buyout. If he drops out of the top 10, then I don't see him coming over any time soon. He needs to either get drafted high in the first round, or in the second round where he isn't locked in to a salary scale. I've toyed with the idea that he enters the draft and his agent puts the word out that he wants to get drafted in the second round. And if a team picks him in the mid to late first round, he just won't come over. Then we pick him up with our 2nd rounder, and spend half our MLE on Splitter and the other half on V-span. That'd be pretty sweet.
Bobby Jones will be a good player. He's tall, athletic, and an amazing defender. But it will take him at least a season or 2 to develop, plus is more like a pick taken in the late 30th's early 40ths. We need scoring options that can potentially produce this upcoming season.
I intended for Dean to backup Rafer. We have no depth at that position and Dean is very capable of playing that position. Ask Fransisco Garcia. He guarded some tough PG's last year on his way to the final four. The problem he had in college was being the best player on the team and was called upon to shoot more. He won't have that problem on our "healthy" team. brief description
It appears that Splitter's contract buyout will be stiff but affordable. If the Rocks can't move up to get a first-rate swing player, then Splitter IMO would be a great choice. The Rockets could then use Swift to trade for a SG with good credentials. If Roy, Gay, Splitter et al are all gone by #8 / #9, then I would take Patrick O'Bryant, the 7-footer from Bradley, on the premise you can never go wrong with an extra big man, especially one with lotto credentials. As much as I love watching Deke play for the Rockets, he's not getting any younger and SGs are much easier to find than quality centers.
9 - Cedrick Simmons, NC State F/C - Mutombo could retire at any second and he can play at the 4 as well. 32 - Blaylock - Iowa State - pure point guard, good defender, good A/T ratio and gets a lot of steals. However, he isn't getting an agent and he may not be interested in 2nd round money. He does shoot about 40 percent from the college 3pt arc but is not a big scorer. I also like Bobby Jones from Washington, Dee Brown from Illinois. I have given thought to Diaz from Miami and Williams from Wyoming. As far as the third scorer, I think we are more likely to trade or sign a free agent.
tiago splitter probably won't enter the nba draft until after his euro contract is done. he's young enough to wait and he's got no buyout clause. the catch is without a buyout claus,e euro clubs want soccer style transfer fees, but nba clubs are restricted to around 500k. i'm not too sure about shelden williams and his alleged "quiet personality" (is he going to go eddie griffin?). he was also caught up in a bad incident that he wasn't directly involved in, just happened to be in the room at the time. it wouldn't look good if he and hayes were both on the roster. going by this season rockets can't afford that bad mojo.
