thanks clutch.. I like me some data all laid out in a pretty graphic That also shows how good the Rox could be if we EVER get both Yao and Tmac healthy again for a good stretch of time. The Rockets historically win nearly 65% of the games when they are on the court together (in the last two years its closer to 70%).
Thanks for the correction. Pretty amazing that this season our winning percentage with McGrady is no different when Yao plays or doesn't play.
True, but 8 games is a small sample and I take this 6-2 record with a large grain of salt. The wins over Utah and Chicago were impressive for sure, but we also barely got by the Sonics and Grizzlies at home. McGrady has been playing out of his mind as of late as far as his shooting percentages, and that was definitely not the case earlier this season (and that wasn't because of Yao). Also the Rockets have a good stopgap solution for Yao with the way Deke is playing ... but don't really have that for T-Mac. The Rockets aren't a special team without both Yao and T-Mac, in my personal opinion. The good news is if T-Mac continues this torrid play (or close to it) and Yao comes back healthy, the Rockets could be in great shape.
I think it also proves how Tmac is really the most important player on the Rockets....his creativity and multidimensional talent is more important than Yao's post game. Of course we need BOTH to be successful, but when you contrast Tmac without Yao, versus Yao without Tmac......it seems that Tmac has a bigger impact. DD
If you want to use stats to extol a player, better make sure the numbers are correct. If you want to make a comparison of a player's (milestone) accomplishment vs those of others, better make sure the comparison is fair and valid, or in layman's term, apple-to-apple. Otherwise, you undermine your own argument with gamesmanship, however unintended, only to taint the reputation of you as his supporter.
I think its 50/50 that the Chronicle will print a correction in tomorrow's edition. Though there's only a 25% chance of that happening. (The Naked Gun)
I wonder what T-mac play like with Yao versus without IMO it obviously changes with yao in the game and . .to an extent it is not for the better are his and Yao's game unable to fully mesh? Rocket RIver
I think so, but I think JVG is right when he says that TMac should not be defering when Yao is in the game. DD
Don't hate on Feigan, he's a die hard rocket fan as any of us. Everyone makes mistakes, give him a break. You don't want him to snap and start bad mouthing Rockets on account of us do u?
I think Feigen is excluding the first couple of months of the 04-05 season which was the period that the team had to adapt to each other and Tmac had to carve his role on the team. He says last 2.5 seasons, so perhaps he's talking about the stretch of games from January 05-January 07 Can somebody do that math reagarding our winning percentage with Tmac during that stretch?
To be fair, we lost a lot of games that we shouldn't have when TMAC was injured. The Golden State buzzer beater was a heartbreaker, we couldn't shut down on the Lakers when we had a 20+ point lead. Yao was giving them open shots, no one could make them. Now when everyone was on their game, we would have done well. Just look at the Spurs game. We crushed them.
No doubt, but Tmac has the added dimension of being able to create for himself too.... Yao is reliant on others to get him the ball. Which when things break down.....Tmac to the rack is slightly more effective. DD
No, he is not. The 96 wins are including full 04/05, full 05/06 and 06/07 so far. No, he is not. That would be called "last 2 seasons", not "last 2.5 seasons". According to Clutch's data: 04/05 49-29 05/06 27-20 06/07 20-8 Even you count 04/05 as 49-0, it's still 96-28 not 96-25
You need to look beyond the stats. A rejuvinated Mutombo can rebound and patrol the paint with the best of them. Who plays after Tracy if he can't go? A short 2-guard who gets backed down or shot over by a bigger starting guard? Yao's post game IS equally as important as Tracy's multidimensional talent. The team would have won more than they would have lost this year w/o Tracy if they had better backup guard play. The losses w/o Tracy speak more on the guard talent around both Tracy and Yao than it does on which superstar is more important.
This thread sparked a thought in my head, which is that Tracy has *only* missed 7 games so far this season, and we're almost at the halfway point. I've always said I'd be happy as long as he could just play at least 70 games, and it looks like he might pull it off, or at least get close. *KNOCK ON EVERY WOODEN OBJECT IN SIGHT*
We had close games with each player out. The difference is, without TMac, we tend to lose those down to the wire games. WITH TMac, we seem to win them. Partly X/Clutch factor. Yao hit shots down the stretch, so I consider him semi-clutch, but the team just wins with TMac playing. TMac just has more skills at his disposal. He can attack from a triple threat position more often than Yao does.
That stat is WRONG, unless there's some qualifier in small print that was not described here... Our record without T-Mac is significantly worse than that. The record with him, I'm not sure, but we had 31 losses that first season alone with T-Mac in the lineup for 29 of those. So unless he's starting that record mid-season 04-05, that number is wrong as well.
I think Feigen was just lazy and was hoping Clutch would put together a stat sheet for him. It worked. Now all he has to do is visit this site and he can print a retraction.
I like to see Feigen come here to this board and explain his new math. My best friend and his wife are both math professors. I always like to learn new stuff!
