I keep get phone calls from this number asking for Lomiqua [redacted to protect Lomiqua's identity] on my office phone. From googling the number, it sounds like one of those crooked collection agencies. I've asked to be taken off their list several times, since they obviously have a wrong number. Of course, they never do, and I'm not sure what purpose it even serves them to keep calling me.

I decided to take a different tack this last time and told the woman Lomiqua was out and I'd take a message. She left a number and said she was calling from Bank of America. Googling the number does not support her claim. Of course, they do everything they can to conceal their own identity, so I don't know the name of the company.

So, what can I do to get these folks to stop calling me? What can I do to cause them maximum trouble? Failing that, what kind of pranks can I play on future callers from these ***holes?

Get someone to "lend" their Bank of America account... someone you trust. When they try to get the info for Lomiqua, they will call back to Bank of America asking to let them take money from her (I hope Lomiqua is a she  ). Nab these f*ckers before they nab us by contacting Bank of America's Security Personnel... have them set these people a trap.

Set their *ss up . I'd do it but I don't have a Bank of America account they'd try to scam. :(

I'm not on the Do Not Call list, yet I only receive maybe 2-3 telemarketer calls a year. I just never input my correct phone number on any forms that aren't necessary. Its sort of like not giving your email address out to corporations.

My office backline apparently used to belong to an individual. The collection calls for her stopped when I informed the collector that he had reached a law office. :D

I get calls all day long from the deadbeat who used to have this extention at work. I try to tell them that I've never heard of this person and to quit calling, but they keep calling. GOD, these collection people are BRAIN-DEAD.

My favorite thing to do is tell them "oh, yes...let me get her" and then put them on hold to see how long they stay on the line.

Or sometimes, I'll put them on hold, then call their callback number on another line and transfer them to their own office. This is especially fun when you get a person at the callback number. They end up talking to someone sitting right next to them and being VERY confused. Idiots.

there are some shady tactics out there. my girl got harrassed by some bogus agency that was looking for a few thousand dollars concerning a BofA account, yet she's never had one. TO make things worse is the guy on the phone was a complete d*ck. How do these people sleep at night?

Just tell them they have reached the city morgue and that [insert name] is not available right now but you can check if he/she is in one of the freezers.
    They will never call back.

That, my friend, was a huge mistake.

You have just confirmed to them that she lives there, and now the calls, letters, and eventual house visits are going to start happening more frequently..

I considered that, and you're probably right. But, because they weren't stopping, I wanted to see if I could get a little more information about who they were.

I do like the idea of forwarding them to themselves.

Maybe you can hire randomdude's stalker friends and see if they can find those telemarketers.. take pictures.. and the rest will take care of themselves

Tell them that you are handing all of their info over to your lawyer to file a harassment suit, and you would like to know the address and contact person the letter should be sent to.

They usually get over themselves that instant... especially if it is not the original debtor.

Also, say the words specifically, "Remove my number from your database. There is no one here by that name, nor am I aware of anyone by that name at this number."

You may want to try those in reverse order. ;)

Tell them they are on a recording line and ask for their name and phone number so that your legal adviser (lawyer) will give them a call to 'sort things out'. I am sure they will hang up on you right away, and probably will never call you again.

I'll tell you right now that the 'lawyer' schtick never works with these guys. They hear it all the time and it doesn't scare them. Neither does the 'remove my number from your database'.

I'm telling you... the only way to stop them is to **** with them.
