Damn red, you are one lucky motha!! I have a 76 Cutlass Supreme which is hardly a muscle car, but man, I'd do anything to get a 1971, back when the Cutlass Supreme was a genuine muscle car!!

    Pics??

no pics yet...once it gets here ill take some pics and post them...along with various updates on my restoration. as of now it is white with black racing stripes. eventually i want it repainted pearl white with the black racing stripes. has dark forest green interior.

first order of business is a new transmission. havnt decided on 4-speed, 5-speed, or a 6-speed. im leaning towards the 6-speed right now. then im going to pull the engine and clean, paint and rebuild it. then the body work and paint job. then the little stuff and interior.

hopefully no more than 2 years before im done.

Was the '69 the first year of the new body style, or the last of the old? I personally did not care for the change.

im not sure...im not a very good historian on the cars. i know the 68 as a very similar body style. my guess would be that the 69 is the last of the body style before they changes. ill go look that up now since im bored at work with nothing to do for several hours.

these cars were before my time...unfortunatly.

It's not a muscle car, although it's no dog with a 390, but it is a classic. '64 Thuderbird. If all goes to plan, it'l go to the shop next week for an engine rebuild. While the engine is out, I'll get it painted. I had the seats redone a few years ago and they are still in good shape.

My first car was a 69 Camaro SS/RS. Competition Orange - my wife looks at my old pics and says, "Eww it's orange." At which I have to reply - no it's Competition Orange. Hey it was orange but that the only color the SS/RS combo came in. It did have a 350 small block. 325hp or 375 hp stock (hey this was all 25+ years ago and my mind is "foggy") but it had a few extras - 650 Holley Double Pumper, Edelbrock Tarachla manifold, Excel Eliminator Ignition, Doug Thorley headers paired with a turbo automatic (not sure if it was a 350 or 400). That car would smoke the tires for as long as you had the hammer down - no exageration - I've left many burnouts over a block long (no water, no power brake starts - just a hammer down and light 'em up) before I let off the gas - I'm sure holding at redline that long didn't help the engine any and I went through my first set of rear tires in 3 months.

I just about killed myself with that car. It was not the first time something went terribly wrong or the second or the ... but the last time...I came off the freeway after racing someone. I was coasting down the exit ramp doing 110. I would have had enough time to brake except when I put my foot on the brake - it went all the way to the floor and the brake light lit up - No brakes! Worse - I was heading into a major busy intersection at 7:00pm on a Friday and there was no road on the other side (it was a T intersection)...I down shifted going down the remaing part of the ramp. I layed on the horn as going through the red light and I was able to down shift into 1st and crank the wheel. I was trying to still make the turn (I had very little choice) but I was still going too fast. I spun out in the intersection and the engine stalled. My knees didn't stop shaking for 2 hours...seriously.

I have many other similiar "life before my eyes" experiences but that was the "last straw"...I realized - it was either "it" or me. I sold it the very next week for $1200 (after I fixed the brakes - new master pump as I remember.)

Though looking back - I wished I would have never sold that car. I just wish I was responsible enough to drive it.

Advice: Enjoy, take care of it and don't street race - other people are out there. I'm very fortunate that I didn't kill myself - or worse - someone else.

    ps. I'm jealous!

    True Story.

I was at Mardi Gras in Galveston years and years ago and their was this kid who had Dads classic camaro parked on the seawall. Parked behind the kid were some bikers who were partying heavily. When the kid got in the car to leave some of the bikers wanted to hear him rev the engine and he obliged them. The car was cherry. White with Competition Orange ;) stripes and it sounded just as nice. When the kid put the car in reverse it jumped back and knocked over a couple bikes. The bikers went nuts. One of them pulled the kid half way out of the window and said things to him that I'm sure made the kid soil himself. Then 5 or 6 bikers got up on the car and started jumping up and down on the hood, roof and trunk. It was like a mosh pit on top of the car. Glass all smashed in, roof, hood and trunk all just smashed. The kid finally got the thing in gear and drove away, the bikers got on their bikes and left and I continued to party the night away. I felt so sorry for the kid but there was nothing I could do to help. I kept imagining him having to tell his dad what happened to his car that looked like it had been rolled.

My dad has a 1968 Plymouth Fury III (semi sports car)

It has a huge 383 engine in it, and a 4 barrell carb. Used to run like a champ.

My 2000 Camaro SS isn't a classic but it hauls ass.

Enjoy your project, my buddy had a 69 Camaro that he spent two years trying to fix up and then gave in and bought a used Nissan 350Z.
