tmac was on 610 talking to jeremy foster at 10am -- not sure if he's still on. I'd like to give a recap, but I just stepped into my office. hopefully someone else can fire one off. I will say this, it was a pretty good interview. he mentioned that his arm should be okay and it's worse than his ankle. said it should heal on it's own. said dallas could very well miss the playoffs due to their upcoming schedule and their loss last night. feels like every game coming up will be a difficult one. basically said charles sucked as a rocket (you can tell he doesn't like charles, it's awesome). didn't have much to say about kenny, either. oh he also said KG used to be king of trash talk -- rafer now has the title. he mentioned that he tells him to calm down sometimes. said he hasn't seen anyone with luis' energy, and that the team calls him "razor ramone" like the wrestler (he added that 'all he needs is the toothpick').
Charles was pretty good as a Rocket; it's not like T-Mac himself is having his best years of his career with the Rockets either.
I thought he played grat his first year as a Rocket and then he was injured the next. I think 02-07 were Tmac's prime years. He's definitely in decline. But he can be a very good player for the next 3 years or so. He definitely needs to be second to Yao though. The other thing that I have noticed with Tmac is he can be great in stretches, but he doesn't the physical tools to be great for a whole game unless he is really rested. We need to play him 32MPG for the remainder of his contract so he can give us great minutes while he is out there. Popovich does that with Duncan.
after what charles and even kenny said about him, its only human to jab back at them. i love the razor ramone comparison.
I remember the career of Charles Barkley and the Rockets quite well. Charles was an over weight player who hardly ever played defence. He was the cause of the demise of Hakeem. Out of respect Hakeem would defer to Charles on the court and thus lost the instinct to be a winner.I think it was a great mistake to bring both Pippen and Barkley to the Rockets.
Great interview. Believes the Rockets *can* win the championship even if it will be a lot more difficult without Yao. Shoulder hurts more than ankle, got a shot before the last game, expects it to heal on its own. Barkley hates the Rockets probably because he resents them for not paying him. Rafer has passed Kevin Garnett has the greatest trash talker in the NBA. Team is taking advantage of 3-day break to regroup in practice, it's been so long. They're actually looking forward to the road trip. Apparently not convinced about the Suns with Shaq. Picks UCLA to win the tournament.
Exactly correct!!! Possibly the same for Yao Ming as he also needs to be restrained from over doing it!
I almost always enjoy T-mac's interviews, despite a lot of the trash talking around here. I'm excited about the games to come!
this is why tracy is tracy. dude just speaks his mind. he rarely hesitates to think before he speaks. whatever he says is what he thinks at the time. that's the good and bad thing about him. but it was a good interview.
it depends on health i guess. he started the season "great." i thought that paralleled how he started his best season in 02-03. but injuries got in the way, disrupted his rhythm and confidence and stamina. the last season he was truly statistically phenomenal was in 04-05, when he had ZERO significiant injuries DURING the season. remember, all these injuries have occurred DURING the season, which throws off a lot of his timing, rhythm, and confidence. if he can just stay healthy for an entire year, i think statistically he'll put up what he should put up. this past month, he's putting up 23, 6, 6, which is decent. but the ppg could have been much better if his shooting was a lil higher, esp. the fts. so we'll see how both tmac and yao are next year. i think if both are healthy, they can put up big #s and we win.
Yeah, people quickly forget that TMac was the league's top scorer before he got that first elbow injury. During the 6-1 start, he was ballin out of control. He got hurt in the LA game which was..what 9 games in? they were 6-2 coming into that one I think.
I would dispute that. T-Mac is a better player now than he was with the Magic. You have to look beyond PPG to determine how good a player was/is. There is no surprise that T-Mac's scoring average would drop when paired with another offensive player and JVG. He re-invented his game and became a distributor and a scorer. I might add he's a better defensive player now too (it helps when you care and JVG made sure of that).
