Here's a philosophical question: If she had a friend who was black, could she still be racist? And I mean a really close friend, not one of those black friends who is like a friend of a friend or is your mailman or something.
no you wouldn't be racist...especially if he was lazy. where would racism even come into play? but I would stereotype anyone as lazy if they dropped out and never tried to get their GED.
AB, I tell you what, I don't know the waitress' tone, how she looked at you, or whatever. Maybe she figured a well-dressed customer was gonna be very upset to know the price changed. Maybe, in her estimation, upper scale folks have a strong sense of entitlement and tend to be snippy about price increases. Whatever. What I do know is that I get the "price correction" **** all the time. When shopping for a car, when buying electronics. Hell I even got it when trying to buy some freaking crab meat; the guy kept trying to get me to buy imitation even though he didn't pull that crap with the white customer before me who bought the same thing. It is not that the sales person tries to help me get a better deal; I appreciate that. Its that they take this snide, condescending tone when they do it. To me, this ranks right there on the annoyance scale with getting followed everywhere I go in Best Buy. As far as being over-sensitive goes, it happens sometimes. But on the other hand, not following his instincts can be bad for a brother's health. Especially, in the wrong neighborhood.
Yes. She can have a black friend and still that that she is superior to her because of her white race. She might even see her black friend as the exception to the rule.
So you really got upset because she told you about a price change? If it was me I would have thought she was doing me a favor. I would have liked to known. I don't get this at all.
Pretty much sums up my view, but I wasn't there and can't be 100% sure she wasn't condescending or provocative in some way.
yup. disgusting, isn't it? people like him are one of the major reasons that racial tensions in this country will never even start to subside. and the irony of it all...of him and the waitress, he's the only one who is the guaranteed racist of the two.
He originally said she did it with "attitude," but that's open to interpretation. If the manager was on board, there might have been something to AB's description or the manager might have just been doing racial damage control.
i'm lost. is it really that far off base to say a high school dropout who doesn't try to get their GED or any kind of professional training lacks drive and is probably lazy? who knows maybe when they work they work hard and like their job. are you just trying to ignore having to deal with "fine lines"?
B-b-but...she's a friend! Maybe what I was getting at is, if you excuse your actions by saying you have a [insert race here] friend, does that make you racist?
I really don't understand how this is racist. She could of done the same thing to a white person and it could of been rude, but not racist.
Glad you can make such absurd generalizations from behind a keyboard. Should've never taken your dumb****ingass off of ignore. That said, it does sound like my man AB overreacted. Caveat being, of course, that I wasn't there. I think it took a bit of courage to post something like this knowing some of the responses he'd receive. He's open to the possibility that he overreacted, yet some of you see blood in the water and attack like the internet warriors you are. Basically, I've been on this board for over a decade now and there hasn't been a poster I've ever wanted to punch square in the nose...until the douchebag rocketfat came along. You sound like a sad excuse for a human being.
I guess I just have had nobody give me a price change with an attitude before. I am trying to mentally picture that happening but I just can't. I can't imagine being upset about it either. It all just seems strange to me.
you don't need to be coy, cutie pie. the word was on the tip of your tongue but you backed out at the last second.
there is no word. i'm talking about people like him who do what he does and tries to make mountains out of molehills and everything a racial issue. is there a specific word for that?
that's exactly what he was asking from when he started this thread. and thanks, tough guy....that's about the highest compliment you can pay me.
