Rockets 48-31 lose Denver - win Clippers - win Seattle
    Finish 50-32

    Kings 48-30 win @Lakers - lose @Suns - win @Jazz - lose Suns
    Finish 50-32

    Denver 47-31 win Memphis - win @ Hou - lose@ Suns- win@Portland
    Finish 50-32

We would lose the season series to Denver(2-1) ... Sac won the season series over Denver(2-1) and we tied Sac for the season series(2-2)?

and we have the best Conference record?

so how would the standing end up?

    #5 Rockets
    #6 Denver
    #7 Kings ?

I figure they would most likely go based on Conference records in that scenario. But let's just win out and not worry about it!

I believe in a 3-way tie, the standings would be decided by the head to head record among all three teams.

So, our record against both the Kings and Nuggets.
Kings record against the Nuggets and us.
Nuggets record against us and the Kings.

In your scenario, we'd be 3-4, Denver 3-3, and the Kings 4-3

just imagine one of those teams being a seven seed with 50 wins. that's incredible. has that ever happened before?

I beleive it is still possible for Denver to overtake Seattle to clinch their division. They each have 4 games left and Denver is only 3 games back.

The possible seedings 3-8 (minus Dallas in 4th) are all still up in the air.

    Basically it goes like this:

    1. We want to win out (possible) owning the TB vs. Seattle/Denver @ 51-31.
    2. We want Sac to win out (improbable), holding the 5 spot to play Dallas @ 52-30.
    3. We want Seattle to beat the Hornets Friday, and LOSE out (possible), clinching the 3 seed but not home court advantage against the 6 seed (us) @ 51-31.
    4. We want Denver to stumble here soon (hopefully vs. us Saturday) and hold on to the 7 seed, playing SA (tough opening round for SA!) @ 50-32.
    5. We want Memphis to clinch the last spot instead of the T-Wolves with a win here soon @ 47-55

T-Wolves and Lakers to the lotto, wow!!!

I couldn't agree with you more; however I too believe that it is highly unprobably.

If Sea was somehow able to win only one more game, and still hold off the Nugs, I'd be amazed. just don't see it happening, although that would be a dream scenario.

there is a very high probability of there being a 3way tie and seattle holding on to #3.

if there is a 3way tie we will drop to 7 and one poster explained earlier. thats not good at all. we have to win against the Nuggs to keep seattle in third and us in 6th. sacramento might try to fall to the 6th but i doubt it.

It's very likely that SAC will lose at least one of the games against PHO. In that case, we'll have the same record as SAC if we win out (beating DEN and therefore dropping them to 7th). If I understand correctly, we have the tie-breaker against SAC so we will be the 5th seed in this case. I think this is a very likely scenario. Of course, we could try to tank the last game vs Seattle to get the 6th seed.

Yes it has. In the 2000-01 season, when the Rockets won the most games ever(45) for a non-playoff team, Portland had 50 wins and was the 7th seed. And the West has only gotten tougher.

It looks like the key is making sure we win both the Denver and Clipper games and then hopefully be in position to have the Seattle game determine whether we want to face Dallas/Phoenix or Seattle/Spurs. I am not too sure about whether JVG would actually throw the Seattle game even if he wanted to avoid Dallas. Just doesn't seem like him, plus I think last year we were put in a similar situation and ended up winning to play the Lakers in the 1st round (as opposed to the Spurs who we matched up slightly better with, IMO).

There is no way we can end up #6 in a three-way tie, right?

The #6 seed is what everyone wants. Even the Sac BBS' fans are expressing a desire to switch places with us. I have a bad feeling Sacramento will definitely lose a game or two here and put us at #5.

If we lose against Denver, we end up last in the 3-way tiebreaker, meaning #7. If we win, we end up tied w/ Sac at 4-3, so we get the #5.

I remember last year the Lakers ended up beating Portland the last game of the year, and if you recall, the Kings were going into a funk. Kobe ended up going wild in the forth quarter of that Portland game. He hit an ubelievable 3 ptr to send the game into overtime. The Lakers later won. and snatched the Pacific title from the Kings. So they get the 2nd seed and play us. Other wise we would of played the Kings.

Kobe single handedly changed the seatings last year based on his unbelievable shot, as the Lakers won the last game of the year.

That being said, I would like to see the Sonics in the first round.

Yeah you are right......it's all coming back to me now, albeit very slowly

In any case, perhaps it was the Kings then that I thought we could've still thrown a game for to ensure we would not meet the Fakers. I just seem to remember cringing when we won a particular game late last season b/c it ended up leaving the door open for a possible Fakers matchup.
