I blame the drinking age limit of 21. It's exceptionally high (above smoking, voting, soldiering etc.) and therefore makes it seem like some BS rite of passage when kids become old enough to drink.

I totally agree. If you look at other countries where they have much lower, or no drinking age it doesn't seem like binge drinking is that epidemic. The taboo of allure to teenagers is pretty great and if we remove the saction then the allure might dissapear. Speaking for myself during my Freshman and Sophmore years of college I drank quite a bit and never had a problem getting alchohal. during my junior year I did a term overseas where the drinking age was 18 and while I drank binge as much and neither did the 18-22 year olds that I hung out with either. Going out to have a beer at a bar or a party wasn't that much of a big deal where you had to drink to get plowed. I turned 21 after I got back and didn't have a wild night drinking, although I did drink, because I had just spent 9 months where I was able to drink legally and it wasn't a big deal now that I could.

I also agree that it is silly that we can send 18-20 year olds off to fight wars but somehow they're not responsible enough to drink. A state senator in Wisconsin last year tried to pass a law to allow soldiers under 21 to drink because it struck him as stupid that these people could go out and kill people or get killed themselves for this country yet couldn't have a beer.

What a waste of cheap Popov's vodka....

I see a made for TV special out of this. Father...angry that he found his missing Jack Daniels in his son's room, challenges him to drink it all in one sitting with him. While covered in their own spit and urine, it would become the best bonding moment for father and son.

I'm pretty sure doing 18 shots in an hour when you turn 18 will still kill you.

I wish more of them would do it. World's already overpopulated with morons.

That's true but so will doing 25 shots in an hour when you turn 25. Prohibition of alchohal didn't work in the 1920's and prohibition until you are in your 20's isn't working now. Setting an artificial date just makes people get more excited about it and abuse it more. What we really need is a different societal approach towards alchohal and making less of a big deal about. I don't have any perfect solution but like I said earlier if you look at other countries with lower or no drinking age there doesn't seem to be the epidemic of binge drinking that we have here.

    thata boy.

i couldn't even tell yall what my record for shots in a night were because there's a great chance that i blacked out and wouldn't (read: don't) remember. the most i've done in recent memory was 12 drinks in about 45 mins..... 7 shots plus 5 drinks on my 23rd. i threw down 4 shots of wild turkey 101 w/ a redbull vodka shot chaser back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back... in about 60 seconds.... that sucked. throw in a few more shots and 5 whiskey and cokes and you have me ****-canned.

    i dont even think i threw-up.

Good times, here in Aggie land though it's no longer leagal to do this in the "Back porch" of North Gate. The Bars claim it's bad for the city, but they b****ed saying they didn't make money when people could BYOB or bring beer outside.

    :(

But they are regreting this now, since most people are doing it at home now. Now the bars aren't getting any money from us. They used to have use buy pitchers from them.

I never got why some people thought they were bad ass drinking up a storm, puking half out, and then finishing up the rest. Save the liquor for tomorrow or the rest of us, man...

And that, right there, makes you a good candidate for blood alcohol poisoning. People who have weak stomachs are actually safer - their stomachs reject too much alcohol before it is too late. The people with strong stomachs can drink until their BAC is high enough to kill them.

I had forgotten about this story, but all this talk made me remember. My brother got me and a friend really drunk on our shared birthday - it happened to be my 18th, which is the legal drinking age in Alberta, Canada.

So for revenge, we decided to get him when he turned 21 in 3 months. We got him so drunk on Tequila that he was doing pain shooters. (lick the salt, snort the lemon, slam the tequila). He ended up in the hospital.

I can only imagine how I would have felt if I killed my brother trying to get him drunk. :(
