So they make the announcement sometime tomorrow morning. Here in Chicago, people seem to be equally split on whether they're for us getting the Olympics or not. I'm all for it. Do you think this will be bad/good for the city of Chicago?
Well, I think it'll be great for Chicago. It'll surely help the economy there... I think it'll go to Rio though.
Daley is under some serious fire for going behind the voters backs and promising the Olympic committee that the tax payers would help foot the bill... that being said, you know they want it.
I was in Chicago in the summer and the city-wide push for Chicago 2016 was everywhere I looked. In the main public library, I saw an exhibit on the plan of the city and how to accomodate all the events, visitors, etc. artist renderings, Olympic Stadium, the whole nine... it was all presented very well with the endorsement of Barack Obama on a letter to the head of the IOC. at the end of Lollapalooza, Perry Farrell made one more push for the audience to get loud if they wanted to see the Olympics in Chicago and the answer was overwhelming. I hope they get it...
i think rio should get it since they've never had one in south america.....but who knows after last time when they bafflingly gave it to london over paris...
Olympics are in one lone city. World Cup is an entire country (many football stadiums). It's possible they can get the cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016. Mexico City got the Olympics in 1968 and the World Cup in 1970. It's possible.
I want Chicago to get it, though Rio wouldn't be too bad either. Getting the Olympics would be a humongous boost to Brazil. I'll be happy either way.
I think the majority of people would rathher spend two weeks in Rio then Chicago. Plus they have made an effort to cut crime there, and you obviously see how Chicago is. USA had an Olympics in 1996, South America hasnt btw im not south american...
Maybe, but that doesn't mean Rio is better equipped from an infrastructure point of view. As far as crime, Chicago's crime is very localized (only in certain pockets of certain parts of town). Michigan Avenue, for instance, is about as dangerous as Disneyland.
