I could see Meryl Streep finally getting the nod. It becomes a sick joke after a while to be nominated so many times but always lose. I thought she was great as Julia Child and was made for that role.
Wife and I were watching the red carpet on E!. Man, HD is rough on some of these smokerfaces. Sarah Jessica Parker...yikes!
I enjoyed Moon and I think Rockwell is an actor's actor. But I could see alot of low-rent pseudo-snobs like me losing patience with the plot. And remember that the Academy/Oscars are ultimately an industry show, so they're not going to give a break to a movie that doesn't make any money now, or probably won't later on DVD sales: which might really be what it's all about. Oscars are generally about the best popular movie, or the most popular good movie, or something.
Why was Clooney so pissed during that opening act with Martin and Baldwin. Is there some underlying anamosity between he and Alec?
I think being that old a female actress and still getting $5 - 10mm, quality roles is enough solace for her. I'm still thinking about her performance in Doubt. A few too many actresses in her demo, Kathy Bates quickly comes to mind, just lose career traction and never get it back.
Kathryn Bigelow or Sarah Jessica Parker, which one looks good enough to take home to mother for a slice of turkey??
