I can't stand red lipstick on some women, it's all about the skin tone. Like that hella annoying chick from the Progressive Insurance commercials..

I think Streep didn't win because voters discounted her work somewhat as an impersonation instead of "acting."

I understand where you are coming from and while I can't speak for the Blind Side I can tell you I was very impressed with how Streep dissapeared into the role of Child without turing it into a caricature, it looked easy but don't think it was. From what I've seen of Bullock in the Blind Side, it just seems like a pretty straight forward perfomance, sort of what you described.

I couldn't disagree more. Basterds was awesome. Don't get me wrong, I liked District 9 and thought it was one of the better pics from last year. I also thought Hurt Locker was pretty good. I just didn't think they were the best. Avatar was a joke story wise. I feel like a twelve year old could've come up with that story.

Basterds was one of the few films this year that I wasn't ready for it to end. I'm noticing two plus hour movies are becoming the norm and am usually ready to leave the theatre well before they end. That wasn't the case with Tarantino's work. Haven't loved everything he's done, but this one had me.

Again I was really annoyed with Moon not being in the running. I also heard great things about Up in the Air and would not have been upset if it won. I've also heard great things about the job Monique did in Precious so I wasn't shocked there either.

By no means am I advocating that Avatar should have won because there was really no clear cut winner (nothing was really GREAT), but some of you act like the world of Pandorum and the design of the blue guys and the creation of a language were not part of the movie. In reality, those are all aspects of what made the movie. Sure the story was a familiar one, but there was a lot more to the movie than just a story.

This is one of the most ignorant statements possible.

I really don't see Avatar being anymore groundbreaking than Skull Island in King Kong

    Mel Gibson. "Are you Jewish"?

Schindler's List might be a good movie but I don't see what's so impact about it.

As for James Cameron. It was his movie The Abyss and T2 that push the envelop on technology in movie making. Jurassic Park would not be possible without the Abyss and T2. Now Avatar top it once again this time giving us what's been missing with CGI characters. Believable character animation especially in the facial animation.

After watching Avatar. The possibility are almost limitless. Imagine Conan the Barbarian in full CGI that only could be possible. Sorry Arnold. You might be a good Conan but finding/casting that ultimate Conan in a human might be impossible. Imagine bringing back Bruce Lee to life. Now that's what I've been waiting for. If you work in this industry you will understand how impact this technology is especially in the movies/gaming industry. Just wait for Tintin.

But it's still groundbreaking nonetheless. If you're talking about the 1933 King Kong. It was groundbreaking in stop motion during that time. Avatar is ground breaking for creating such a realistic world and almost realistic bipedal aliens.

It was noting compared to avatar. Kong Kong was just a jungle on planet Earth with some oversized pre-existing creatures.

This was an entire new world.

It was awesome but once again it was nothing really groundbreaking. You can get away with alot of thing with a CGI ape. Same thing with Transformers. Transformers CGI rendering might be amazing but once again metallic stuff are much easier to rendered than realistic skin textures. Avatar broke new ground with the facial animation and that's the part of the animation that a lot of us can really tell if it's real or fake.

Excellent article on Mo'Nique's acceptance speech -- for those who didn't understand what she was referring to when she talked about "the politics" and "doing what's right". It's not quite what you might think.

I don't know about CGI, or 3d, but James Cameron needs to go to jail for what has happened to Suzy Amis since they got married. She went from being a reasonably pretty actress in "Titanic" to looking like Jessica Tandy right before she died. All I could think about was her being too close to the Arc of the Covenant when it was opened. I tell ya, she looked like the lead actress in "Auschwitz- The Movie."

King Kong might have been the worst movie I've ever seen. I actually walked out of the movie 10 minutes in and went and sat in another movie altogether. King Kong ain't got **** on me.

As a huge Avatar fan, I'm happy that Hurt Locker won. If only Avatar's story was a little bit fresher. But both definitely deserved to be nominated.

I hope one day though, the Academy starts to understand and recognize the work of actors in cgi mo-cap performances....because Zoe Saldana deserved a nomination, and her work was every bit as good as any live-action performance.

I didn't see all of it, but I liked Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin...I saw there Paranormal Activity bit and the Snuggie moment, and both were pretty funny.

Monique's speech was classless and ungrateful...and didn't make a lot of sense.

The Kanye moment was weird....that lady popped out of nowhere.
