No way Matt Damon wins, CHristopher Waltz was ridiculous in Inglorious Bastards

I would agree with the rest, but I think the Hurt Locker could win best movie (although I don't think it deserves it)

If Colonel Landa doesn't win the supporting actor role, I am going to rage

 

Hurt Locker was a good movie, but it wasn't great -- I don't think it should win best picture.

 

I hope Mo'Nique wins best supporting actress so she can have Charm School and Oscar winner on her resume lol... :grin:

Avatar should be a BIG winner tonight and I am expecting an epic acceptance speech from Bullock.

 

I just hope Bullock or Blind Sided don't win anything.

That movie looked like a lifetime movie from the previews, and Bullock seemed like she was over-doing it, in every clip I saw.

For the record it is very had to say a line like the one that went something like this:

Football Player: You've taught me so much.

Bullock: (after an overly meaningful dramatic pause) No... You've taught me.

I saw that cheasy line and knew I would never be able to stomach the film. I almost threw up in the theatre just from the preview.

Bullock is cool for showing up to accept her Razzie, but that doesn't mean she deserves an Oscar for this.

I almost never agree with the Oscars, because not only do the best performances or films seldom win, they often aren't even nominated.

 

That's a separate criteria from whether or not it deserves to win an Oscar.

But after the " No... You taught me line" That might take her out of the running for a lot of self respecting people.

 

"I've never seen it, but I know it doesn't deserve an award! I'm also going to bash the Oscars for not giving the award to the best movies even though I openly admit I don't even watch the nominated films!"

 

I agree. The Blind Side was on the cheesiest movies I've seen in a long time. I mean the actual true life story itself is great, but the way the movie was made was pretty awful.

I liked Avatar alot, but I hope it doesn't win. Its too commercial of a movie and shows money can buy these awards. Hurt Locker was good, but didn't think its Best Picture worthy. I liked Inglorius Basterds and Up in the Air immensely though. I have The Serious Man, but haven't seen it as yet.

 

After predicting Saving Private Ryan and Brokeback Mountain and having those sure things upended, I've given up on figuring out what they're going to do.

The Hurt Locker will probably win. Then be forgotten about, like Crash, American Beauty, etc. Not that they're bad, they just won't be "stand-out" enough to be remembered as all time greats.

Avatar will continue to be remembered and watched over and over again, but it probably won't make any "Best 100," "Best 200" etc. movies of all time lists.

Inglourious Basterds will be the one that winds up on all the "best of all time" lists when everything is said and done, just like Goodfellas, Fargo, and Vertigo, none of which won Best Picture but which are all typically ranked ahead of the films that beat them.

Don't know about Up in the Air, Precious, or Blind Side. The others don't have a chance.

Anything with the Coen brothers deserves a 2nd look. Certain directors' movies will always be reviewed in retrospectives, which is why anything from Tarantino, the Coen brothers, and Soderbergh will probably be held in high critical esteem (unless it's really bad like the Hudsucker Proxy).


Hurt, Bridges, Bullock, Waltz, Mo'Nique. Though there will be at least 1 upset.

 

I haven't seen Up in the Air, so I can't comment on that, but Inglorious Basterds and The Hurt Locker were terrific. I disagree about The Hurt Locker being forgotten. People will be commenting on that film as long as people are interested in the wars being fought today, in my opinion, just as certain WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War flicks are brought up when discussing those conflicts and the influence they had at the time on popular culture, as well as which films most realistically portrayed those conflicts.

 

I agree, good not great. My vote for best picture is to Inglorious Basterds.

 

I haven't seen "Avatar" but I'm aware of its existence. My understanding is the story isn't exactly anything new and it's a visual feast. So, why would it win for best picture? Shouldn't it just win for special effects? Immersion is special effects. I think it's a lock there. I'm not ready to see everybody kiss Jim Cameron's ass more because he is still trying to clear up the "Titanic" hickeys. But, Mr. "Ass Kissed a Billion Times and a Trillion More Waiting in Line" will end up on stage receiving something....probably for director. But, I'm thinking "The Hurt Locker" may win...and I haven't seen it, either. Basically, everything I speak from comes from heresay.

Tonight is the "how much is Jim Cameron going to get his ass kissed tonite?" awards to me. I hope these new "surprises" to shake it up from its predictable past mean we end up with some surprising results.

On second thought, maybe the Academy members do need to kiss Jim Cameron's ass some more.

My suggestion to Jim is to wear several layers of underwear tonite. Maybe he can stave it off and save his ass for another day?

 

I only say 5 of the 10 movies (Up, District 9, Hurt Locker, Inglorious Bastards, and Avatar). The problem imo with a lot of these is that they are all good but not great. I enjoyed them all, but none were truly great imo. That is why i give the nod to Avatar because it had the "awe" factor. I also feel District 9 is being overlooked. I remember enjoying that the most while walking out of the theatre.

Like others have said, "The Blindside" looked very cheesy and similar to every disney sports movie ever made. I usually find the Coen Brothers stuff overrated. "Up in the Air" looked like a chick flick to me. I refuse to believe Tyler Perry could create a movie worthy of a best picture nomination. And I don't know anything about "An Education."
