    Wasn't aware of this. During the 61-62 season when Wilt averaged 50 points a game, and Oscar Robertson averaged a triple double, the MVP that year went to Bill Russell. The players NOT the media voted back then. Russell averaged nearly 19 pts and 24 rebounds per game.

    Mvp is not just about personal stats, team success is taken into consideration as well. I don't know about celtics w-l records during the 60s but if Russell won the mvp despite less impressive stats I believe his team had the best record.
