I think Phoenix playes the shortest rotation (7-8) in the league. Most coaches go with an 8-9 man rotation. The Rox are very capable of going with 12, but will probabily go with 10. We just have so many good players.
I'm thinking there might be some unhappy players if we go high and do a 10-12 man rotation which translates to less minutes per player. But the same can be said about the opposite if the Rockets go 8 man rotation. It's almost like he can do no right. Thank God I'm not Adelman. I hope he figures it out and the players understand or else all that hard work by Morey will be put to waste.
Good post. If you go with 10 players rotation you'll give less minutes per player. And Adelman can just use one player in one game, the other player in the other game. Just to make everybody happy. I hope his decisions won't break our chemistry down and every player will understand the situation
i'm sure adelman knows who will be the rotation players right now. he doesnt have to sub someone out to make another player happy. who cares if fans are unhappy that francis is benched? adelman sure doesn't. he could play bonzi wells and mike james for 35+ minutes a game as long as it gives us the best chance of winning.
I think Adelman has already said he's looking for a 8-9 man rotation. Who cares if a 12 man rotation "can be done", all that matters is "if it will be done" and the answer is no, it won't.
(He said today he envisions a nine- or 10-man rotation. Now that I think about, he said something along those lines last week, too. I'll have him check with you next time. -- Jonathan Feigan)
I won't mind having a 9-10 man rotation during the regular season to keep everyone fresh and injury free. Minutes will vary, but I'm sure Adelman will make best use of the players he has available.
9 maybe ten man rotation, but you can't do a 12 man rotation in the NBA and win. You also don't pull a guy if he misses a couple of shots. You have to have a game chemistry and some rhythm to get into, you can't do that if you are playing 1-15 minutes a game. Plus, you wouldn't want to pull a guy for someone else if he's on fire. I can see nine guys playing, maybe ten, but not twelve. Only during garbage time.
i see so many misconceptions about adelman and rotations that he always plays the short rotation. i actually lived near the sacramento era during their heyday in the early 2000s and i watched kings games all the time. adelman actually used a pretty deep rotation when the kings were deep in 2002-2003 because he had a secondary team of bobby jackson, hedo turkoglu, jim jackson, scott pollard and keon clark to go with their first unit of bibby/christie/peja/webber/divac. he also had damon jones that he used for 10 or so minutes a game and brings in gerald wallace for another 10 minutes or so. i think 4 of those bench players played 20 minutes a game or so. you are free to check this up. it was afterwards when keon clark went whack, jim jackson went to rockets and they gutted the rest of the bench for brad miller that they went with a 7-8 man rotation because there was lack of quality bench players afterwards. i remember in sac they used to call their second team the "super subs"
ahh here it is look at http://www.basket-stats.info/nba/2002-2003/teams/west/sacramento.htm vs http://www.basket-stats.info/nba/2003-2004/teams/west/sacramento.htm the bench quality was much more garbage (although they have arguably a better 7th man to go with their perennial 6th man candidate bjax) so obviously adelman toned down the bench usage. this is probably the kings that you guys all remember and it is definately a thin rotation.
I agree with the thread starter. I do it on NBA-Live all the time and I am a very successful video game player. It should be easy to do it in the NBA if you can do it in a "somewhat close but maybe not but might share some distant similarities and if you ignore the other variables and success rates of other situations and just focus on the ones that think work without any significant experience in the same area" format. After all, the salaries for all the players are basically the same and no one is getting paid more than the other, that and if we don't play all the players, the parents might get upset.
