I've heard many rumors? Or should I say ramblings about Duncan being a Rocket in 03, and I guess lately it's been bothering me. Is there any chance that will happen? Did Tim admit to liking Houston, or is it just the Rocket fans being extremely optimistic in their future adquirements. Anyone?

That'd be nice, but probably will never happen! BUT, Houston does seem to have a brighter future and no telling what goes on in the minds of these guys. His style of play would fit the Rockets perfectly (except the poor free throw shooting).

    Just a rumor...

I just don't see it happening since Houston will be well over the cap in 2003.

Doubtful we can get Duncan, but if Walt, Willis, and we unload Glen Rice contract?? Money wise does this get us close to the 5 yr / 6 yr vet max-i.e. !4 million per year? I don't know......

Don't get so excited about our cap situation since we are currently $6,738,169.00 over the cap.

Next summer the Rockets will offer Francis the max.

Kenny Thomas is also likely to get an offer next year to keep him out of free agency.

Terrance Morris and Oscar Torres both will have new contracts by then if they remain Rockets.

The current cap is $42.5 mil and in 03 our contract situation is currently $36 mil not including any new draft picks or free agents for 02 or 03.

Tim Duncan has a player option on his contract for 03 of $13.279 mil. It would take at least that much to get him to void his contract.

The math seems simple at this point. Our cap in 03 is 36mil and Duncans salary is 13.3mil that equals 49.3 mil in salary cap. Remember that number does not include what Francis, Thomas, Morris and Torres new contracts might be if those players remain on the Rockets. It also does not include draft picks in 02 or 03.

I'm not a capoligist but it appears that the cap would have to go up significantly to even consider signing Duncan a remote possibility.

point taken,...i was being a little sarcastic, but tougue in cheek too. i'm not a capologist ither, but i was thinking that i saw one of the capoloist say that the cap in 03 would be in the neigborhood of 55 million for that season. with really only needing Tim Duncan and resigning all our free agents i was thinking that San Antonio will want a sign & trade with as many of our draft picks as possible for rebuiding purposes, solving our problems of additional contracts and roster spots. San Antonio will want youth and some veteran experice to lead. with Walt & Willis coming off the books next summer...one of two things has to happen. either we trade them for one year contracts of come off the following summer or get them to re-up for one year or....two,...Tim Duncan demands a trade in 02 and we trade any combination of Cato, Collier, MoTay, Willis, Rice, Langhi or KT and our draft picks. obviously not all these players would be involved, just whatever San Antionio wants to rebuild with with our and their draft picks. just my thoughts on how its possible that he could end up here........although i firmly believe that Maimi may be the real destination of TD in 03:(

Lets see, Cato 7mil, Taylor 7mil = Duncan at 14 mil. I think its realistic especially given the way we're filling up compaq center now. Cato, Taylor, and maybe a draft choice for sign and trade and Duncan. We probably wasn't serious about Webber, but we will make a run at Duncan, i think.

If 19 year old Eddie Griffin made Chris Webber unnecessary, won't he be all-world by '03 thus making Tim Duncan unnecessary as well?

please tell me you don't think that is what i meant...you even used my quote which i will guote AGAIN that ...now pay attention crash,...this might be difficult math for you;)

    Walt is 5 million

    PLUS

    Willis is 3 million

= 8 million + the 1.3 million give us 9.3 million in cap space.

you still with me now.......let me know if i go to fast for you,...lets continue....

minus the hypothetical trade senerio of Cato 7 million & MoTay 7 million which combined is 14 million

    crash....you still with me???

14 + 9.3 = 18.3 million to spend and still below the cap

throw in draft picks which will further relieve our cap situation and give San Antonio something to compensate for ( getting Cato to begin with ) rebuiding their club for the future.

its just a theory,...its reasonable and i'm just playing with you.....so don't get up set, you we're busting on me, so you deserve it:)

    Sign and Trade?!?!?!

San Antonio would have to be smoking some messed up crack to even think about trading him to someone in their own division.

Pock Poppovich will never let go of Duncan if he can help it- what coach manager would?? Besides- Poppovich tanked a whole season to get a chance at the lottery pick.

That being said-if there was any chance we could get him it would be very wise. He is probably the most complete big man in the game-not the power impact player of O'neall, but has a deliberate, smooth , relentless attack that will win games with consistency and mental power- what a player!!!!!!

    We will never get him
