You have to go to whatever software you use and look for an option to burn from an image...that way it should give you an option to select the ISO...
You will need to use some software like Nero to burn the linux ISO to a CD. Then it doesnt matter..you can leave the hd in your laptop and boot...

Download Knoppix...its free
Instead of connecting the hd to a windows computer...boot up a computer using a live Linux cd like Knoppix and try to read the HD.
