Hayes and Novak couldn't be more opposite. Hayes is short and strong, gifted with defense and rebounding but no offense. Novak is tall and weak with zero defense but amazing range. The only thing they have in common is that they're both unproven, Novak moreso.

So which should be the primary backup behind Juwan? Make no mistake about it, Juwan will be the starting PF this season barring injury. And I have more faith in our backup PF's than I do our backup SG's, so I don't expect to see Battier to spend that much time at the 4. Snyder, Luther, and Jacobsen do not excite me.

Personally, I think Novak should get the first chance. His spacing for our stars will really make the offense flow, as seen from the 04/05 season. Three point shooting changes everything. The suns have built their entire offense around it. Battier and Novak in the corners = Yao dominating in the post. Meanwhile, our defense seems effective no matter who's in the lineup and we're always competitive in the rebounding department, so Hayes' contribution isn't essential; an offense that doesn't stagnate is. Sure, Novak is skinny, but PF's today are getting increasingly skinnier. He should be able to hold his own. Hopefully, he's gained a few pounds.

Neither. The backup PF should be Juwan Howard. Hayes should be starter.

Novak without a doubt. Hayes only sees 5-10 min.

First off, I'm having a lot of trouble picturing Shane @ the 2. Secondly, Steve Novak is a flat out rookie, as opposed to Chuck Hayes who we have seen at least a little of. So, at least till he learns the ropes, Novak will get the least amount of minutes @ 4. Also, there's always the slight possibility Novak plays limited minutes @ the 3.

    1. Shane Battier
    2. Juwan Howard
    3. Chuck Hayes
    4. Steve Novak

Ignoring his build, Novak's game matches the 3 better than the 4 imo. Hayes is more of a Barkley-esque player (atleast on one end), definately belongs at the 4.

I would be happy with this rotation:
    Yao/Deke
    Battier/Hayes/Juwan
    Mcgrady/Novak/Bowen
    Spanuolis/Snyder
    Alston/Head/Lucas

In my best Under Dog cliff hanger narator voice:

Will Juwan Howard be the starter?

Will Chuck Hayes get significant minutes?

Will Steve Novak translate his game to the NBA? Will he play 3 or 4?

Will VSpan play 1 or 2, if he plays at all?

Will Battier play 2, 3 or 4? Will he make a difference on this team?

    Will TMac be healthy?

Will Yao play upto his play at the end of last season?

Will Rafer hit a shot this season?

Will Snyder shed his "potential" label (unlike Stro and Griffen)?

    Will I ever shut up?

Will the freaking season start already ...at least training camp. PLEASE!

Novak is a 3. Hayes is a 4. Therefore I think Hayes would be better at the 4.

The scenario of Juwan being our starting PF and being backed up by Novak has a zero per cent chance of happening at the start of the season. #1 Juwan will not be our primary starting PF. #2 Novak cannot be "given" anything (including the first chance) because he's an rookie who could end up being a marginal NBA player. I have high hopes for him but let's not go over the top. His rookie year will likely be very uneven and we should not expect him too much of him right away. I think a reasonable hope for him is he starts out as a spot playing specialist and gains more playing time as the season progresses.

i think novak will see most of his minutes at the 3.

    1. shane
    2. jho
    3. hayes

personally, i'd like to see more of hayes and less of jho. would any team want to take him off our hands?

The difference this year with previous years is that we have FLEXIBILITY

most of our players in the current roster can play multiple positions

This flexibility allows us to matchup with the opponent in our favour and I think that besides the three faces on the rockets site, everyone else may start or come of the bench to provide the spark

but NOVak definitely during crunch times, while Hayes comes in during times where we are outrebounded

I want Tmac as my primary backup power forward
    Battier to the 3
Head, Sura, Snyder, Vspan... whoever at the 2
and Alston, JL3, Vspan at point

Start Hayes and stick Novac/Howard/Deke with leftovers or as matchups and foul trouble dictate.

I think it fixes our depth problem at PF and finds more minutes for the glut of guards we've picked up.

I think Hayes/Novak/Battier is the best PF rotation.

I think we need to cut Juwan.

I also think that Novak should primarily be a SF, seeing as he can't defend the 3 or the 4, but he will have an advantage offensively at the 3.

With these 4 guys to play PF, all we need is one tall, strong, tough guy to match up with the bigger players. Just a matchup guy who we use occasionally.

Cut Juwan and we have $18 million on the books with nothing to show for it.

    Howard.

But I want Novak to get minutes. I want to see him knocking down his 3's.

gross understatement of course but damn I got sick of us shooting bricks last year.
