A stockpile of assets couldn't help them move up in the draft or turn into a big name (yet).

RJ Hunter is a good shooter, but they just spent their top pick on another PG and now have three of them.

Are their assets truly attractive enough for a S+T for LMA or Love?

Its looking like they will not be able to package those middle 1st round picks for anything of real value. Ainge may be overplaying just how smart he actually is.

GMs may also not want to gift anything else to the Celtics anymore. The demise of the Sonics is the only reason Ainge was able to build a championship contender 8 years ago.

Their first first rounder was a huge reach. I dont emough about him to have an opinion. He could be a hidden gem. Still i thinkthey could have gotten him in the second. Rjhunter was insane value for such a low first tho. The real question for me is what happens with sully now. He was apparently made aware he would be traded but hasnt yet. Hesa sensitive guy and couod create problems in the lockeroom so will he stay now or will he go nonetheless?
Dont write Ainge off just yet. They still got the brooklyn unprotected firsts that will be woth their weight in gold. They can sign love and trade some asstes to philly for one of their centers. One of smart or bradley and picks. And sign Rolo too.

Everyone just assumes Brooklyn is going to end up as one of the worst teams in the NBA in the future.

Those Brooklyn picks would come due in 2017 & 2018. In the summer of 2016 the Nets only have on the books $25 million, thats enough space to sign talent to prevent your organization from being one of the worst in the league. And I highly doubt that their Russian owner allows that to happen.

Those Brooklyn picks will end up being in the 12-18 range, which is meh. Typical Celtic attitude, thinking what they have is better than it actually is.

He should have went for the Parsons for Rondo trade last year.

Even worse is that he offered one of Brooklyn's unprotected first rounders to move up and grab Winslow, but they were lucky enough to be turned down by Jordan, who then drafted Kaminsky.

Basically all these GMs saw what Morey did and is trying to copy him but they haven't been able to cash in yet.

Dude, Danny Ainge is the originator. Morey, who worked for Ainge, copied Ainge.

Ainge was the one who compiled a bunch of assets and converted them to KG and Ray Allen and won a title.

Ray Allen was only traded because the Okie owners wanted to strip the team down to its bare bones.

And they only got KG because Ray Allen was then on the team.

If the Sonics hadn't been leaving town, there is no way they would have traded Ray Allen for that pile of crap they got in return.

Ainge is good, he has a good record as far as drafting non-lotto picks.

You could also argue that Morey got Harden because OKC didn't want to pay him

And they only got Howard because Harden was on the team

For both GMs, they set themselves up for the opportunity and then jumped on it.

Always a weak argument when you say a team got lucky because the team they traded with was in "x" situation. That is what good GM's do! They get themselves in the best position to pounce on a situation like that. Shaq to the Heat was because of Kobe. Are you going to take that away from the Heat? Harden to Houston was because OKC Was not willing to pay Harden. Are you going to take it away from Houston? These are situations that come about and it is up to the General Manager to put himself in the best position to pounce on the opportunity by recognizing what it is they can do to FIX that other team's issue. A GM ready to pounce doesn't just look for that amazing player -- because every NBA team does that! The GM ready to pounce has the solution for whatever that distressed team needs through a multitude of assets that can accommodate many different "stressful" situations.

Morey loves undersized PFs, Henkie loves big men and Ainge loves collecting guards. They've got a few good players, but a whole lot of blah. Unfortunately they did a terrible job of tanking without Rondo (32-28 .533) compared to (8-14 .364) with Rondo or they could've had a top 10 pick.

First of all you can write it in stone that king will pay big$ to bith young and brook lopez. Secondly why would any star want to sign to a team that has Billy King as gm? No matter what you cant trust him to help you make additions to contend if you are a star player. And lastly why would any star want to come join brook lopez who is riddled with injuries and will be paid big money? So its a good bet those picks will be in the lottery. I dont think they will be top3 tho. Also im not a celtics fan but a neutral.

I agree, I'm saying Brooklyn will stay mediocre enough so that those picks never materialize into a top 5 pick. Unless they strike gold in the lottery. But Brooklyn should remain perpetually average.

The trade was imbalanced because the ownership wanted out of Seattle. They fire saled that team not to "rebuild" (they nearly made the conference finals the previous year) but to kill all fan loyalty and interest in the Sonics.

Yeah, he should have drafted 5 point guards.

Marcus smart would be a perfect fit next to harden but the rockets have nothing to offer.
