As rumors continue to swirl about the Rockets trying to trade for Carmelo Anthony, oddsmakers have taken notice. A week ago, the sportsbook BookMaker.eu had the odds that Anthony will begin the 2017-18 season as a member of the Knicks at -200 (meaning you'd have to wager $200 just to win an extra $100). The odds for the Rockets to have Anthony in the fold by the beginning of the season were +250 – meaning you'd wager $100 to win an extra $250, basically 2.5-to-1 odds. The odds of the Cavaliers landing Anthony were at +450. BookMaker updated those odds Tuesday and showed an increased likelihood that Anthony ends up with the Rockets. Houston Chronicle sports columnists Brian T. Smith and Jenny Dial Creech discuss how the Houston Rockets need one more piece to the puzzle and is Carmelo Anthony that piece. Media: Houston Chronicle Those updated odds have the Knicks as a -125 favorite to keep Anthony while the Rockets improved to +175 and the Cavaliers became way less likely at +900.
I think that change in odds is a big deal. Sportsbook don't mess around-there's money at stake. I just wonder how they set the lines for something like this. The Knicks have had their odds of keeping him almost cut in half and the Rockets have improved a bit. That Cavaliers +900 is big; those are long odds meaning that it's not very likely he goes there. Thanks to OP for posting.
They have the Astros winning the World Series at +173. So it looks like the Astros win the title this year, and the Rockets land Carmelo Anthony!
These odds almost disappointed me. While we are the favorite of any team to land him, Knicks at -125 (55.6%) are still sig. more likely to keep him than us prying him away at +175 (36.36%), according to Vegas.
Yeah wtf? Youd think knicks keeping him would be least likely scenario. they adjusted it that way because a lot of people are atill putting money on the knicks for some reason. Worst choice out of the 3 if you ask me
Could just be inherit bias to favor the outcome in which nothing changes. Or we're overestimating how likely a trade gets done. Hoping for the former
This team does not need one more piece or two more pieces, but need a lot of pieces including a new GM to be able to be a real title contender. This off season is fun to watch only if you consider it is not for championship.
Put all your life savings on Melo being a Rocket at the start of the season. I'll be happy with a 10% cut of the winnings come October. It's so easy to bet money on something when it's not your money
