Severed head found in suspected French Islamist attack

A severed head covered in Arabic writing was found at a U.S. gas company in southeast France on Friday, police sources and French media said, after two assailants rammed a car into the premises, exploding gas containers.

Speaking from a European Union summit in Brussels, French President Francois Hollande described it at a terrorist attack and said all measures would be taken to stop any future attacks on a country still reeling from Islamist assaults in January.

One suspect had been arrested and was already known to French intelligence sources, Hollande said.

"Two individuals deliberately rammed a car into the gas containers to trigger an explosion," a police source said.

It was not known whether the victim, so far the only known fatality in the incident that also injured two people, was decapitated before or after the car smashed into the building, or whether the victim had been on site at the time of the attack, or killed elsewhere.

"The attack was of a terrorist nature since a body was discovered, decapitated and with inscriptions," Hollande told the news conference.

    ISLAMIST FLAG

Police sources earlier said the decapitated body was found at the site, along with a flag bearing Islamist inscriptions.

Local newspaper Le Dauphine said the head covered in Arabic writing was found on a fence.

The French public prosecutor said its anti-terrorist section had been deployed to investigate.

France, which has deployed aircraft to the international coalition fighting Islamic State insurgents in Iraq, has long been named on Islamist sites as a primary target for attacks.

In April, Prime Minister Manuel Valls said no fewer than five attacks had been thwarted in the country since the Charlie Hebdo killings in January.

Then, Islamist gunmen killed 17 people in the offices of the Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly and a Jewish food store.

Noting that hundreds of French nationals are in Syria where they risked being radicalized by Islamist fighters, Valls said "never has the threat been so high".

The site belonged to Air Products, a U.S. industrial gases and chemicals company, according to a spokeswoman for Air Liquide, a French company in the same sector. It was immediately ringfenced by police and emergency services.

The chairman and CEO of Air Products is Seifi Ghasemi, who in 2011 testimony to a U.S. Senate committee described himself as Iranian-born. Mainly Shi'ite Iran is a sworn enemy of Sunni-dominated Islamic State.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack and the motive was unknown.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve was at the site in the town of Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, around 30 km (20 miles) southeast of the city of Lyon.

French media said the government had ordered security to be stepped up around sensitive sites in the surrounding Rhone-Alpes region.

At least seven dead in Tunisia tourist hotel attack
At least seven dead after attack on hotel in beach resort of Sousse, interior ministry says

At least seven people have died after an attack on a hotel in the Tunisian beach resort of Sousse, Tunisia’s interior ministry has said.

The attack was on the Imperial Marhaba hotel, a source and local radio said.

A security source at the scene said the body of one gunmen armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle lay where police had shot him dead. It was unclear whether there were other assailants.

Sousse is one of Tunisia’s most popular beach resorts, drawing visitors from Europe and neighbouring North African countries.

Tunisia has been on high alert since March when Islamist militant gunmen attacked the Bardo museum in Tunis, killing a group of foreign tourists in one of the worst attacks in a decade in the north African country.

Kuwait City Attack: Blast Rips Through Mosque During Friday Prayers

DUBAI — Four people were killed in a suicide attack on Friday on a Shi'ite Muslim mosque in Kuwait City, the governor of Kuwait City Thabet al-Muhanna said.

Speaking by telephone from Kuwait, Muhanna told Reuters that eight people were in critical condition.

A witness said the bombing happened when the mosque was packed with some 2,000 worshipers during Friday prayers.

Kuwaiti parliament member Khalil al-Salih told Reuters that worshipers were kneeling in prayer when a loud explosion ripped through, damaging the walls and ceiling. He said a suicide bomber who looked to be under 30 years of age caused the explosion and that he saw several bodies covered in blood on the floor.

All that in just one day, and that doesn't even count the violence in Iraq, Syria and other places, in the name of that ideology.

    Religion of peace?

Horrible news. Years later, we are still paying a steep price for George W. Bush's mad adventure in Iraq to "avenge" his father. We're also paying a price for the reluctance of President Obama to act decisively against ISIS early on, and his lack of a coherent strategy against them today, inaction that, in my humble opinion, contributed to the further spread of Islamic terrorism not only in the Middle East and North Africa, but in Europe, as well. As I have said before, I don't agree with everything the President has done, or not done, when it comes to foreign policy, just as I loudly disagreed with Mr. Bush before he launched his absurd invasion and occupation of Iraq. The son is not remotely as intelligent as his flawed, but largely successful father, George H.W. Bush.

USA and Europe not doing **** and watching ISIS take over middle-east will be viewed the same as no one stopping Hitler after invading Poland and making his first strides in Eastern Europe.

ISIS are spreading like cancer and are a threat to the whole world, yet all the powerful nations just stand by and don't intervene before they become too powerful. This will end in bad fashion...

You are buying into the propaganda and you are viewing the Middle East as a monolithic slate.

There isn't much to debate here and we all agree these attacks are horrible and our deepest sympathy to the victims. What I would like to know though is if these attacks were coordinated and by who or if they are the actions of lone wolf terrorists who just happen to have picked yesterday because it was a Friday during Ramadan.

Don't act like Muslims haven't been killing each other and anyone that disagrees with them since way before Bush.

These animals are taking credit for these cowardly actions, let them own their deeds.

I absolutely stand by my post. Oh, and these aren't animals. They're human beings who sometimes act like animals. As for their religion, lumping all Muslims together as you seem to do is ridiculous. The terrorists deserve whatever punishment we can give them. However, they are a small minority. Most Muslims are as concerned about them as we are. The chaos produced by Bush's mad adventure made a huge contribution to the troubles we are experiencing today. If you don't see that, I don't know what to say, except get your eyes checked. With all due respect.

But a very large percentage of Muslims has similar views and goals for society as these terrorists. They might find the methods distasteful, but there is a huge ideological overlap. It's not like it's "just a few terrorists who have nothing in common with the large majority of Muslims".

Yes, It's similar to a nation with a military. Only 1 percent of the nation's population actually physically fights for the nation's interest through serving the military but a large percentage of the nation's citizens who aren't fighters support the cause of the military.

It's very similar with Muslims in certain regions. You have the jihadists who physically carry out violence but there is a sizable portion of Muslims who are not fighters but still support the jihadists.

Plenty of Islamic apologists come up with arbitrary numbers such as 99% of Muslims don't carry out violence acts in the name of their religion. However, they would be shocked how many Muslims actually support the actions of the jihadists.

The reason for this? A literal interoperation of the Quran and an attempt to mimic the life of their prophet. Luckily most western Muslims especially in the U.S. have a quality of life where there is no need to be fundamentalist and become more secular.

So you would call Obama's Middle East strategy a 100% success?

Me stating facts everyone can see (none of the big nations doing anything constructive vs ISIS) makes me a victim of propaganda and you also somehow come to the conclusion I view the Middle East as a "monolithic slate? Would be a pleasure to hear you elaborate.
