Criminally underrated... My favorite: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3rP3Hi1f7Og" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The 12 minute version... awesomeness: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pJV2pWFyfn4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Eddie Kendricks... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/caSdaC7hSSE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
"I have no problem not listening to The Temptations, which is weird." - Mitch Hedberg Seriously, I don't think they're underrated. Who doesn't love the Temptations? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LbAaLdLguLo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Temptations are not underrated. Four Tops are underrated. Spoiler <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2EaflX0MWRo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yhBv_fA1LJs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The Temptations are definitely not underrated. They're also one of my favorite groups of all time. BTW, that isn't Eddie Kendricks fronting the group on "I Wish it Would Rain", that's David Ruffin, who doesn't get enough credit for how great a talent he was. Now he may be underrated. Underrated groups of that genre? How the hell can The Spinners not win one single Grammy?
This thread is underrated. Smokey Robinson would be my vote for most underrated of all the Motown acts. Take away all the songs he wrote for other acts and you'll know what I'm talking about. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MA5Sobdo8DE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Smokey is also one of my all-time favorites. He actually wrote the hit The Temptations are probably most-known for, "My Girl". It was supposed to be a Miracles song. He also was the guy that recognized what a talent David Ruffin could be as a lead singer.
This. When I watched the miniseries I was like, what's the big deal with making it David Ruffin and The Temptations?
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes might be more underrated than the Temptations, but one of my favorite later songs was A Song For You.
I never watched the mini-series, so I don't know what they showed, but by the time Ruffin was asking for him to get top billing in the group's name, he had become somewhat of a jerk to the rest of the group and he had gotten into cocaine use. He was missing meetings, rehearsals, etc. and they didn't consider him very dependable.
I forgot where I read this, but when The Spinners were with Motown, they were the back up for the Temptations in case of no shows or over bookings. And I know that The Temptations were also known for their choreography, but really, try dancing with big ass rubber bands: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/eta4eETAdVM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
LOL! That video made my day. I remember singing this song as a kid after watching Linda Carter (Wonder Woman) singing it on the Muppet Show with the muppets. That move around the 2:25 mark has got to be the most dangerous move in the singing business - one slip-up and there go your babies.
love the spinners and sam cooke <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zz_mziosqLQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Love all the music in this thread. "RubberBand Man" was my High Schools basket ball team theme song. They would crank the music and then run on the court and do their warm up layups.
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6PU1PEA8S6M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> My second favorite Temptations song (after Papa Was a Rolling Stone). David Ruffin was so damn good.
For the new generations that are now in middle school... I wonder what they will call oldies. "Tina Turner? Billy Idol? Roxette? Yeah my mom listens to those oldies."
