The NBA Salary Cap could go down by 10-15% next year. The Rockets are capped out anyways

This will definitely affect the Lakers for sure who have a bunch of guys on one year deals. Morey sneakily taking down the competition.

    Lol. Knicks get screwed again.

Gave big money to average player for one year to set themselves up for 2020. Now salary cap is lowered.

Morey is smart, cap Rockets out with WB trade and now screw everything up for other team

    Mit genius

This definitely isn’t good for the Rockets. Makes WB, Capela and Gordon’s contracts a lot worse. We pay more in LT as well.

Also sucks for Rivers, he should have cashed out this off season.

Why? They get a higher percent of the profits than the owners.

So Morey helped out Tillman and he still threw Morey under the bus? What a snake.

The NBA and China will end up working something out.

The NBA doesn’t want to lose that much potential income and there are a lot of people in China that want to watch the NBA.

It may well be the All Star game or later but it will happen.

imso: You have it in reverse, unless you are worried about paying tax. And I wouldn't be surprised if the owners agreed to lower Tax penalties temporarily due to unforeseen circumstances.

That joke tweet by Nate Silver in OP is actually spot on. Versus the league, a sharp drop in Salary Cap benefits the Rockets more than most teams.

    • Teams with their core players already locked up (or with Bird Rights), with no previous plans to use Cap Space or Non-Tax Exceptions, lose little. Other teams have less flexibility to upgrade, than what they were thinking they had last week.
    • It also means Gordon might actually sign a cheap extension now, versus try open market. And even if he turns UFA, less competition to sign him. [edit] brain fart. He already did.
    • As for Rivers, dude has already made $50m, and he'll have a PO with option to get a Early Bird contract with us, versus less competition out there to sign him. It kinda screws Tucker, though.

Have you not even looked in the GARM lately? It doesn’t matter how many people in China want to watch it, what they think doesn’t matter.

Make no mistake. If the NBA maintains its stance, it will be decades before the NBA is in China again, if ever.

When can we build a statue for this guy? It will be very appropriate to have it built in some small striped mall in Chinatown.

Am I ****ing stoned or did we not already re-sign Gordon

Lol, and I see the point on the benefits on not being a team who has cap space, but it still makes all of our contracts a higher percentage of the new cap, which is why I said worse contracts for WB/Capela/EG. If the owners agree to adjust the LT pentalties that would be a huge difference, didn't think of that.
