I'll give Silver the benefit of the doubt, here.

There was nothing to defend for the first 2-3 days or so, I believe. I think the wave of Chinese backlash started to happen a couple of days after Tilman's tweet about Morey.

And then, I think Silver was directly asked about this / this was a quote given by Silver because of a question - it's not like Silver needed to say "btw, if y'all think Morey finna get the pink slip..he ain't!" unprovoked.

Silver had a ton of internal pressure working against him. He's not an owner, he's an elected employee.

For him to take the stance we've seen thus far is impressive as hell to me, even if it wasn't immediate.

That would be disastrous for China. And, could be construed as an international incident.

How many other major organizations/businesses have stood up to the CCP? I honestly can't think of any.

And the most ironic fact is Chinese government has "creatively" taken advantage of the democracy and the freedom of speech to spread their influence positively even aggressively in America.

Their state-run propaganda machine can easily post news which are manipulated or distorted on Facebook or Twitter, they can freely hire consulting company to lobbying the congress against those bills which is unfavorable to them, and they can even simply put advertisements on American local newspapers to publicize their opinions. And you guess what, at the same time there is NO any single one foreign media are allowed to run their business in China, the CCP even made a statement publicly that the media must follow the party.

So it's time for not only NBA but also others American companies to reconsider how to continue running their business in China. Yeah, the cake is huge indeed, but no one will get the assurance for a piece of it, cause they just want to use it as a advantage for kidnapping public opinions.

You are absolutely right! Any social injustice in America is far more important than any other social injustice any other part of the world! Darn you Morley and your compassionate tweets!!

Perkins was right! Bronny isn’t selfish, he had a difficult week playing a game and making millions while the people of Hong Kong got beaten and thrown in jail! Stop thinking of yourself Morley and get educated!!!

    Did I do that right??

If it is strictly business, firing an employee who made a grave mistake, wouldn’t be a problem.

It so happens that this dude is a martyr and championing a cause that people stand by.

Plus the organization is likely never getting an equal replacement for him.

Basically, the Chinese Basketball Association is a half official unit in China, and the commissioner of CBA can only be nominated and appointed by the National General Sports Bureau which is a government department. So I don't think he has the authority to comment on this issue as a individual person. What he could only do is following the government's opinion, and not publicly commenting on this is the best thing he can do.

And here is the best example to describe what I've mentioned, the CGTN (China Global Television Network) is a typical media totally funded by Chinese government, its just like twins with CCTV. And when you watch this episode, you'll find there're only similar comments about how violent the Hong Kong protesters are and how unacceptable about these violence, and you will not see any comments on the police violence or even mentioning about that, and you will also not see any comments about what the real demands of Hong Kong protester is. That's called selectively misleading or mixing up.

Wow the guy asked Silver directly what repercussions would there be for Morey and he fired the bullet straight to Lebron’s hypocrisy bone that they speak out as well!

Why the **** does Lebron want him disciplined? Does he know how ridiculous he comes across? Really a poor look for that money hungry James.

All hail to Silver! Can’t believe he’s doing so much right and getting **** on as if he’s on par or worse than Stern. You know how that POS would’ve handled it.

If you're American and live in America, while the country is at a breaking point & deeply divided, police killing unarmed black ppl (with impunity), POTUS committing crimes & working w/ neo nazi's, immigrant children thrown in life size kennels, I would hope your focus would be home first.....Make sense?

China denies it asked for Morey’s firing over HK tweet

BEIJING (AP) — China is refuting NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s claim that it demanded the firing of Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey over a tweet that supported anti-government protests in Hong Kong.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang says the “Chinese government never posed this requirement.”

During an appearance in New York on Thursday, Silver said the NBA was “being asked to fire (Morey) by the Chinese government, by the parties we dealt with, government and business.”

Several Chinese companies, including the Chinese Basketball Association and state broadcaster CCTV, suspended engagement with the NBA after Morey’s tweet.
