Can’t believe we traded CC AND a 1st round pick for a 30 year old Scrubington!

Clutchfans comedy thread of the week.

Robert Covington with elite shooting is Paul George and last time I checked he costs $33 million per season. For $11 million though, Scrubington is what you get — elite defense and poor shooting.

True, but PG has driving abilities, he just deferred to Kawhi.

No doubt George is three times the player that Covington is, hence three times the salary of Covington.

I was making the comparison only to illustrate the fact that elite defenders with elite shooting are all stars making top dollar in this league.

I was making the case, he started to assist more and do other things besides defense, steals and shooting 3s.

So he could be theoretically paid 3.5x more.;)

HATED the trade at the time (forgot we gave up a freaking 1st rd pick too). Covington is a fine add on piece that is worth, at best, a late 1st rd pick. Not a borderline all-star center and a first. Someday, people in Houston are going to wake up and realize Morey is a MIT computer stat nerd/geek who has never shot or played basketball in his life and has been given full reigns to make basketball transactions. This is why you have the team (of lousy shooters) shooting 60% threes and nobody on the court taller than himself. Just as you wouldn’t want most basketball players creating complex computer programs, you shouldn’t expect success from computer techies making basketball decisions.

Typically players who shoot more than 4+ 3's a game not including the super star 3pt shooters (Curry, Thompson, Harden, etc) don't play lock down defense maybe Thompson and Durant pre injuries.

The Covington trade had to happen to go all in with the terrible switch heavy defense (that only works when EVERYONE is playing defense, cough Westbrook/Harden). Covington wasn't going to give us anything better than 33% from the 3 if he was also asked to chance down the best offensive players on the opposing teams.

And really without Westbrook and Harden going off every night + Gordon/Rivers and whomever else, our team isn't going that deep into the playoffs.

Reading posts taking DaDakota's simplistic takes to task is always a joy.

Covington fills a bunch of needs on this team. Not everything is surface level.

Agreed! Let's dump Morey and get the best former players to run the team! Sign MJ, Kevin McHale, Magic, and Isiah Thomas! Dream team of GMs!

Pull up a list of all Morey’s transactions these last three years and tell me with a straight face that he is a quality GM. Please include all the first round picks he gives away like candy. Morey with this moronic small ball and continuous hoisting of three pointers (by lousy shooters) has turned the fun game of basketball into a gimick. I used to love the NBA draft and now can’t even watch or get excited about it because we never have any first round picks. He usually gives them to other teams to get rid of his trashy prior transactions (Lin, Anderson, etc) or to acquire trash (Shumpert). Heck, now he gives them away just as a thank you for taking Capela (who had five straight double double 20 rebound games earlier this season) off our hands. Wake up Houston!!! No Finals appearances in 26 years and it will be 27 years shortly. We are better than this and changes need to be made!!! First one to fix this train wreck would be to fire Morey (and not re-sign MDA) and bring in a better basketball braintrust.

    Where have you been?

Harden has been one of the best defenders on the team, leading NBA in steals, top 5 in deflections, elite post defense and best shot blocker for a guard.

What else do you want from him on defense while he is lapping the entire NBA in scoring - for the 3rd straight season?

Only Wilt and MJ have been as prolific as Harden with 3 consecutive years scoring average of over 30+ PPG.

Paul George is a significantly better offensively skilled player. Have you ever seen him play? He has an infinite amount of moves compared to RoCo. This is silly.

Clutchfans haters, whiners, and crybabies rotate between hating Tucker and Covington every other week — the two best defenders on the team. I dare anyone to name a better replacement for either making the same salary.

This board is full of dimwits who think they can GM better than a top executive in the league. It’s like watching children hate on their mommy because she didn’t put their favorite treat in their lunch bags. Robert Carrotington is not only good for you, but also the best mommy Morey could afford because your deadbeat dad Tillman is broke.
