Think back for a second, to 90-91 when Olajuwon went down and we had to rely on role players and Otis Thorpe. What did coach Chaney do? He went full pick-and-roll, run and gun but still playing nosonamabitch is going to get past us defense. Granted we had the personell with guys like Wood, Mr. Mean, Maxwell and the like. Nonetheless, he adapted to the circumstances and we didn't play like that in 89-90 or prior to the injury.

We had just over 50 wins and even when Olajuwon came back, we played a style that would suit this team perfectly. Running the pick and roll and posting up Dwight with outside shooters and OT with the ocassional post up. TJ can do that so the 4 and 5 are covered. We had Buckaroo at SF, Parsons is 10 times the player that guy was. All we really miss is a tough defensive minded wing player like Max and a true PG like Kenny.

The bench had Jamerson, Wood, Sleepy, Mr. Mean, Feitl and Winchester. 4 out of 6 of these guys weren't that good, but were tough and or could shoot. The toughness part we lack, but the shooting we should have with Casspi, Garcia, AB and D-Mo. The right players will come through trade, Morey has shown before he can do that so no worries there.

One clear advantage that 90-91 team had over this one is: the backcourt knew how to feed the post and play off of it. That will come with time for us though. Remember, we didn't fully rely on Dream back then yet, that was only when Rudy T took over. Dwight is not a player we can or should fully rely on so that's why I feel the 90-91 style would suit us. Unfortunately we cannot bring the Don back, but they should go back to the playbook from those years and watch some tape. Maybe it will do them some good :)
