Cuts down to 53 coming by 5pm today. Quarterbacks Schaub Grossman Orlovsky Runningbacks Slaton Brown Moats Fullbacks Leach Casey Receivers Johnson Walter Davis Anderson Jones Tight Ends Daniels Dreessen Hill Offensive Line Brown Pitts Myers Brisiel Winston Butler Studdard White Caldwell Defensive Line Smith Robinson Okoye Williams Bulman Okam Cody Barwin Linebackers Cushing Ryan Diles Bentley Adibi Cornerbacks Robinson Reeves Bennett Molden McCain Quin Safeties Wilson Barber Busing Ferguson Special Teams Brown Turk Harris That is 51. I think the last 2 roster spots comes down to RB Foster, S Harrison, LB Davis, LB Thompson and DL Zgonina. Love Zgonina, but I think his age hurts him, plus I can't see carrying more than 8 on the DL. I am going with Foster and Thompson as my last 2. What do you guys think?
I've really like the LB play of Buster Davis. He doesn't seem to cover that well but he gets after the run. You need Zgonia available when an injury happens, we need a full rotation in the DL. I'm all over the waiver wire for DB's, ours stink. Foster goes to the practice squad, he'll replace Brown when he gets hurt.
Unless I misread/misheard, I though McClain insinuated that they are going to keep all 3. My impression is, Grossman will probably be named the backup and Orlovsky will be "groomed" so to speak to assume the backup role next year. I don't see Grossman being here after this year, but I could be entirely wrong on all of this.
You already have 8 with Smith, Williams, Okoye, Robinson, Cody, Okam, Bulman and Barwin. That is pretty full.
Been impressed with Glenn Martinez. Foster should be kept around. What's the deal with Dunta? Is he on the team or not? Good thing Brice McCain has looked good imo. Definitely check the wire on corners. I'm totally ready for Sept. 10th NFL season kickoff.
8 is a full rotation but "when an injury happens". I just think Zgonia would get picked up if we waive him.
I think Zgonina earned himself a spot on this team with his impressive camp. It's obvious that his work ethic and enthusiasm haven't waned because of his age. I also like Beusing (sp?) to make the team. He's been impressive throughout the entire TC. I've gotta think Thompson makes the team also because they want to carry two full rotations of LBs.

From JunkFood's post on the Texans' message board: ----------- Per NICK SCURFIELD via Twitter Andre Hall beat out A Foster. Dreessen will snap with Harris gone. Busing beat out Harrison. G Martinez made it for play at WR and sp teams Kubiak hasn't heard anything new from dunta robinson Kubiak called orlovsky and grossman "both our backups" after grossman's performance last night Kubiak: Casey "is really surprising us as a fullback" Kubiak said "we're not done" - team will be watching the waiver wire for cuts around the league And Zac Diles definitively named starter at WILL
Hey I got 51 out of 53. Was surprised to see them cut Clark Harris as he was our long snapper. Didn't know that Dreesen could fill that role. I think they also had Casey trying out at that position.
What Kubiak says "we're keeping Grossman because he looked good" What Kubiak means "with the way Orlovsky looked, we're probably ****ed if Schaub goes down"
Dunta is officially back: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/6604719.html Texans cornerback Dunta Robinson says he will report to the Texans for a physical and conditioning tests Sunday morning. "I've been working hard and I’m ready to go," Robinson said. "I don’t know what they’ll have me do tomorrow, but I think they will mostly look to see where I’m at physically. "But I'll be on the field for the next practice." If he passes the physical, Robinson's first practice is likely to be Tuesday. The Texans, who finished the preseason at Tampa on Friday, are scheduled for a workout Sunday morning and will be off on Monday. Robinson, a free agent designated a franchise player by the team, and the Texans were unable to come to an agreement on a long-term deal. He will now sign a one-year contract at the franchise level, which is the average of the top five cornerback salaries in the NFL. Robinson held out hope that the Texans would agree not to place the franchise tag on him again next season, but the organization would not agree to do so. "There is no ill-will on either side," Robinson said. "They did what they thought was best for them and I did what I thought was best for me. When two sides don't come to an agreement, that's business, and just business. Now it's time to move on and go win football games."
Does 4th-round pick Anthony Hill factor in to the mix at tight end this season? I've been kind of disappointed in his performance this preseason, but that can be attributed to his youth and unfamiliarity with the playbook. I'll have to say that he occasionally struggles down field in route-running and pass-catching situations. But, at 6'5'' 265 lbs., he's a very impressive blocking tight end. He could serve as a great compliment to Owen Daniels, who's primarily a pass catching tight end, in 2 tight-end sets. He's a Houston kid, so I'm pulling for him. Just wanted to get a few takes on his future with the team...
I'm not sure they're going to look much to him in the passing game. I actually would be surprised to see him on the active 45 man roster barring injury. OD and Dreessen have to take up the first two spots, and then I think Casey will take the third since he is also the backup fullback. If Hill does get in, I don't expect many passes to go his way...that's something they'll have to work on long-term with him, but for now he's essentially replacing Mark Bruener as the 2nd TE in run situations.
